While hopping around the country last week, I had another photo session in Wisconsin – this time for boudoir photography. For those of you who are unfamiliar with boudoir, it’s defined as: “a woman’s dressing room, bedroom, or private sitting room,” and is pronounced “boo-dwar” though with a little more French finesse. Boudoir photography is usually very sensual and intimate.  I like to keep my boudoir sessions classy as opposed to raunchy (really not a fan of raunchy – and in this case, I think less does NOT always equal more, at least in clothing terms).

Anyway…..knowing that we’d be near a river, I suggested to Ali that we get adventurous and make some photos in the water as well as on land – and tah dah! – trash the corset was born! Ali was fantastic in front of the camera, and we had a lot of laughs. I think it’s probably easier and less awkward to be photographed in your dainties by a fellow female than it would be a male (though this is just my assumption), mostly because: 1. You won’t have to worry about me being inappropriate or hitting on you. And 2. I’m a woman, too – so I’d like to think I know what makes ladies feel pretty!

But, again…I’m being overly chatty – onward to the photos! Ali has been ever so wonderful in letting me share these intimate portraits, and I’m so, so glad – because she’s stunning! (Also, fair warning, for those of you who are viewing this at work, there are photos of a woman in underthings, though they’re not anything more risque than a standard one-piece swimsuit.)

Oh, and P.S. Boudoir photography makes for stellar wedding day gifts to your special someone and also works beautifully as an anniversary present! :)

On the docket: back-to-back weddings this weekend! One in a gorgeous (did I mention GORGEOUS?) mountain meadow in Corvallis, and the other in Great Falls at Boulder Ridge Lodge – and the bride’s horse is guest-starring! I’m so looking forward to both – can’t wait to share some sneak peeks!

Cheers!

As you may have noticed, I’ve been a bit quiet on the blog lately. But it’s because I’ve been busy! I jetted off to northern Wisconsin last week for a working vacation and also to attend a high school reunion. (I’m not going to tell you which one – you’ll have to guess. ;) )

During my quick trip I was lucky enough to photograph some super awesome portrait sessions – and this was one of them!

Monica and Shawn have been married for 5 years – happy anniversary, you two! They weren’t entirely happy with the photos from their wedding (according to Monica, the woman wasn’t as good as she had touted), so they wanted to get some nice photos done for their anniversary. And we had a great time! It was a bit cloudy, and the humidity was palpable (we were all slightly sticky), but what a great session!

Monica and Shawn were also super creative, too, and brought along a picnic basket and blanket for some of the photos – and of course a few delicious cherries to feed one another.

But here I am getting chatty – let’s get to the photos! Thanks again, you two! I’m so happy we were able to do this while I was in town. See you in Utah! :)

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to have bunches of rhubarb just beckoning me to make a pie. So I did! I’m fairly certain that strawberry-rhubarb pie is one of man’s best inventions and I’m slightly….no….strike that – seriously addicted to this sweet and tart treat.

One of these days I’m going to have a rhubarb plant of my own – it’s been a goal of mine for years and years. Until then, I like the stalks that can be found at Missoula’s local farmers’ markets.

Anyway, again, I don’t have the recipe right in front of me, but it’s a basic fruit pie recipe using a little flour for thickening as well as cinnamon for spicing it up. I like to use less sugar than called for because I’m a fan of the rhubarb’s tartness, plus I also like to pair the pie with ice cream!

Here are some photos of one of my favorite desserts!

This is a photo prior to baking and before I covered it with a crumb topping. Yum!

On the docket: a darling 5-year anniversary session in Wisconsin, and a steamy boudoir/just because session – oh what fun! Stay posted for the pics!

A couple weeks ago I felt the urge to bake again, so I carved out some time, grabbed some beauuutiful peaches and made a rustic peach tart. Peaches are just completely irresistible to me – both in flavor and in photography – so I thought I’d share some photos of their perfection, as well as a rough recipe (since I don’t have it in front of me). Enjoy!

Rustic Peach Tart

Ingredients:

7 or 8 medium peaches, sliced and pitted
Pie dough recipe
Flour
Ground ginger
Ground nutmeg
Sugar

Directions:

Slice your peaches. In a medium bowl (not including peaches at this point) add enough flour, sugar and spices to coat peaches upon tossing. (Sorry – I’ve got the amounts, but the recipe isn’t in front of me at the moment.) Generally it’s about 2/3 c. flour (I think), about 1 tsp. ginger and 1/2 or 1/4 tsp. nutmeg. You can adjust the amount of sugar depending on how sweet the peaches are.

Add the peaches to the flour mixture and toss to coat.

Place your prepared pie dough (you can use either store bought or homemade – mine was homemade) on a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil. Put the peaches in the center of the pie dough and fold up the edges around the peaches into a sort of octagonal shape. Pie dough will not cover the top of the peaches. Brush exposed dough with water and sprinkle sugar on the dough.

Place uncooked tart in oven at 350 degrees (I’m guessing here) until tart is lightly browned and bubbly in the center. Remove and cool on a rack. Cut and serve! Delicious, fast and easy!

Yum yum! On the docket – another of my favorite recipes – strawberry rhubarb pie, as well as a beautiful photo session for a couple’s five-year anniversary – photos taken in Wisconsin!

Is there anything better than a happy, smiling, giggling child?  I’m not sure there is.  It’s magical, intoxicating and the essence of everything that is pure and good.  And there was a LOT of happiness, smiling and giggling during my session with Christy, Alan and their three children, Kaely, Wynter and Karu.

We all had a wonderful time – the kids enjoyed having little races with one another and showed me some of their best dance moves and subsequent grins. They even doled out a few hugs and high fives!

I love editing photos and after having gone through to find my selects, realizing my face hurts because I’ve been grinning the entire time. This was one of those sessions.  And here’s what kept making me smile!  Thanks again! I really, truly had a great time meeting you all and photographing your family!  Enjoy!

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to photograph Jason and Tonya’s family – it was a gorgeous evening…the sun was golden and the air was warm. Everyone had ice cream on the brain, especially their boys who had a great time saying “ICE CREAM!” Another favorite word: “KaCHOW!” Super cute!

The boys had great time racing their toy cars to me and we all had a nice little session of high-fives for the drivers.

Thanks again, all of you! It was great to meet you and make some photos of your family!

First off, happy Fourth of July! I hope you’re all celebrating safely and having a great day! Make your day a little greater by checking out the photos of these adorable, ADORABLE puppies!

I had the pleasure of photographing these 7-week-old Yorkshire terrier puppies last week, along with their lovely owners. I’ve got to hand it to them – because of all the rain we’ve been having the mosquitoes were out in full force and they didn’t complain once. Seriously folks. These mosquitoes weren’t like anything you’ve ever seen. I know we all went home with some war wounds from our photo session (and I know that the word “some” is probably an understatement for all of us!), but they were all troopers – thank you for being so awesome!!!

And the puppies were just adorable, of course. Little velvet ears, tiny button noses, sweet little faces. I could go on and on.  And I will. For one second, I promise. Highlights of our session: puppies jumping out of the wagon (CUTE!), puppies running (SUPER CUTE!), puppies trying to eat flowers (MAKE-YOUR-HEART-MELT-CUTE!), puppies being sleeeeeepy from all the fun (CUTE OVERLOAD)!

But I’ll stop with the chitchat – here are the photos!

Eeek! I’ve gotten a bit behind in posting sneak peeks from my photo sessions – life’s been so busy!

I met up with Angie, Ken and their handsome dog, Rivet. (I think I’m spelling his name right?) Angie wanted to have a “just because” photo session – which I love! We all had a nice time tromping about near the river, and Angie and Ken braved the chilly water for a few shots. Rivet also kept himself amused by barking at a few kayakers paddling downriver.

Angie is a photographer, too, and wanted some portraits with her camera, so we had fun being a little camera-nerdy and taking pictures of one another.

Here are my faves from our session! Thanks again, you two! So much fun to finally meet you!
