Leafless Diaries – The 50/50 Project has paid a visit to Montana and the photos are up! What is Leafless Diaries? To quote from their website it’s a project to:
“obtain the little bits of ourselves that we don’t normally reveal to the world.
Spending approximately a week in each of the 50 states of America, they will distribute 500 blank diaries along their nationwide tour. Passing along to a plethora of different demographics of age, race and social status, to gain the broadest amount of perspectives and thoughts and ideas possible.
Each participant will write a single entry in a book – something thoughtful, something deep, something they would normally write in a diary of their own. And then they are asked to pass along the book to someone they do not know, place in a location for someone to find or request an address from the online waiting list so they can send to someone across the nation.”
The project also has a photo component, which is where I come in. I had the distinct honor of being selected as Montana’s photographer, and had the absolute pleasure of photographing individuals interested in donating their portrait to this pretty rad project. The photos continue the thread of anonymity presented in the anonymous diary entries, which is why there are black bands across the eyes. The photo subjects’ shoulders are bare to emphasize the project’s motto: sharing the little bits of ourselves that we don’t normally reveal to the world. (Motto paraphrased slightly.)
This is a really unique project, and Leafless will be visiting many other states during their tour. You can participate as a photo subject or diary entry-writer as well! Just visit their website, look up tour info, and contact the state’s photographer for more information on shoot dates for your specific state. I highly recommend participating – it’s a great experience, and it’s pretty neat to be able to be be a part of something that is so large-scale and creative.
(And, to clear up any questions, this was not a nude shoot. Male participants only removed their shirt. Female participants simply slipped straps down over their shoulders. It’s all clean and family-friendly. :) )
And now, to the photos! Thanks again to all the participants! (Some of you had expressed an interest in purchasing prints of your image. If you are interested in a print (in which the black band can be removed), please e-mail me to let me know and I’ll send you info on how to see a gallery of your images, and how to get one of these in your hands. Thanks!)

On the docket: engagement sessions, senior sessions and more!
Cheers!

Thanks so much! It was a perfect combo and such a delightful shoot! :)
Kristine, I am always struck with how you seem to draw in the most fun couples… maybe it’s just your energy, but every shoot you do seems to be so energized and intimate. I am really proud to say that I know you!
Tanya – what a wonderful, wonderful compliment; thank you! You just made my day! All warm and fuzzy inside now!
