I met up with Chris and Kelcy a day after their gorgeous Missoula wedding for their super fun trash the dress/rock the dress session. It was roasting hot, but we all had a blast making some really fun images of the two of them doing something they mutually dig – jeeping! I hadn’t ever been in a jeep before (I know, I know…I’m a woman of small, deceptively tough cars) and I’ve got to say, it was definitely a good time! We also made some stunning non-jeeping images of the two of them, and Chris definitely won the award for best veil assistant ever. With a veil as long as Kelcy’s, it liked to grab onto twigs and such, and Chris was always there to help her out. :)

Thanks again, you two! What a fun session! You rocked it!

  • Kelcy says:

Thanks for a fun day Kristine! We love the shots! We had so much fun, thanks for enduring the heat with us!

  • Jenn Morrisroe(twin of groom) says:

WOW!! You guys look awesome…what a totally FUN shoot!!! Wedding dresses, tuxes, jeeps, love, what could be better? There are a lot of awesome moments captured here….and you both totally look like your wedding day. Great great work and two beautiful amazing people!

  • Kelcy – you are so very welcome! I should be thanking you guys, though! Seriously, I couldn’t stop smiling after your session – so much fun! You two are the bomb!
Jenn – Thank you so much Jenn! Kelcy and Chris make my job easy! :)

And there was lots of both at Chris and Kelcy’s wedding at The Keep in Missoula, Montana. From their absolutely sweet first look (I think Chris had his breath taken away when he first saw Kelcy) to the moving toasts given by family – it was a day to remember. The day started out sunny, but a little Montana microburst decided to sneak its way into things right when the ceremony was supposed to begin. This might have derailed things and jangled the nerves of many couples, but Chris and Kelcy took it in stride and instead shook up the schedule a bit, starting with toasts and champagne. When the sun came out, everyone gathered outside again and Kelcy walked down the aisle on her father’s arm, only the brightness of her smile rivaling that of the sun peeking through the clouds.

Thank you SO much Chris and Kelcy for having me photograph your absolutely beautiful and emotion-filled wedding day – such a treat! Here’s to a long life together filled with happiness and laughter!

I love them! I was going to pick a favorite, but realized that I couldn’t pick just one favorite! They are great! You really caught everyone’s personalities so well! We are excited to see the rest! Thanks for having fun with us and endulging Chris’ artistic ideas!

  • Kelcy, thank you! :) I had such a hard time picking my favs for the blog post too – I can’t wait for you to see the rest! What an absolutely wonderful day!

From the cowboy boots on Emily’s feet to the cowboy hat on George’s head, theirs was a wedding that truly spoke to who they are as a couple (remember their awesome e-session from a bit ago?). Every bit of their wedding was simply beautiful and simply THEM. A friend married them, their siblings stood up with them, and they looked to the mountains as they pledged their vows to one another.

Even as the wind whipped and rain threatened, George and Emily took it all in stride and had a blast sharing their wedding day with their friends and family. Big Sky beers flowed (gotta love Summer Honey and Scapegoat), the conversation and toasts were both merry and touching, and the dancing was punctuated by quite a lot of comedy (I’m still smiling!).

Thank you so much, George and Emily, for inviting me to document your wedding day and for being such kind, caring people – what an absolutely wonderful and moving celebration of the two of you getting to spend the rest of your lives together. Congratulations and all the best to you both!

The skies were blue, the sun warmly kissed the rolling hills of the Two Feathers Ranch in Darby, MT, and smiles graced everyone’s faces as Lauren and Jeff promised their love and devotion to one another. It really was a magical day – Lauren and Jeff enjoyed a sweet “first look” before their ceremony, then bid each other adieu until Lauren made her grand entrance by horse drawn carriage. The ranch’s other horses even decided to add their own element of beauty and surprise by galloping alongside Lauren’s carriage as she drew closer to the ceremony location. Cheering greeted Lauren and Jeff’s first kiss as newlyweds, and guests merrily rode wagons to the ranch’s barn to enjoy dinner and dancing and a lovely, soft sunset.

What a gorgeous day, and a beautiful wedding, Lauren and Jeff! Thank you so much for having me share your day with you and document such a special occasion!

  • Every wedding you do makes me swoon. You capture the emotion and the elegance of each event and it feels like I’m there! The photos are so personal. It makes me wish I was getting married so you could be my photographer! Someday…someday :)

  • Awww, Emily, you are so sweet! Thank you for such nice comments! You’ll get married someday, someday. :)

  • Anita Ghiloni says:

Wow! What a perfect, beautiful day, wedding and of course Lauren and Jeff. Your pictures are just so wonderful and can’t wait to see all of them. We will treasure them always and will allow us to relive that special, magical day and for those who couldn’t make it, allow them to enjoy it too. Thanks again, Kristine!

  • Nikki Hochhalter says:

These are beautiful pictures! perfect place to have a wedding. Is it a private ranch or are people able to have weddings there?!

  • Anita – thank you so much! It has been an absolutely pleasure working with your entire family. :)
Hi Nikki! Thanks so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed these images. I can’t quite remember off the top of my head if the ranch is available for wedding rental, but I’ll ask Lauren (the bride in these photos) and let you know what she says. :)

Millie and JD’s wedding in Great Falls was full of personal touches that made their day extremely special and even more meaningful. Millie’s dress was made by her mother, using the skirt from Millie’s grandmother’s own wedding dress. (Millie’s mother used the skirt for her wedding, too!) The groomsmen added a bit of playfulness to what would have been traditional pocket squares, instead opting for fun “fair ribbons” saying: first place, second place, third place and participant. Hilarious! The amazing cupcake sculpture (it can only be called a sculpture because it was truly a work of art) was created by Millie’s father, and the cupcakes were made by Millie’s mother. Absolutely stunning!

Such a special day, full of so much love, put forth by wonderful friends, family and the couple themselves.

Thanks so much for having me photograph your day, Millie and JD!

The sun winked through the fluffy white clouds, the waters of Flathead Lake shimmered, and a baby hummingbird watched from his nest of moss and twigs as Cassie and Cameron spoke their vows in the presence of their friends and family during their wedding ceremony on Flathead Lake’s Polson side.

It couldn’t have been more gorgeous – the grounds, the lake, the happiness of everyone present – all helped make this wedding incredibly beautiful and sweet, made even more so by Cassie and Cameron’s smiles as they walked down the aisle, husband and wife, laughing under a shower of fragrant lavender flowers tossed by their guests.

Thank you so much for letting me share your day with you! What a perfect evening for a wedding and a great way to start a long life of happiness together!

What a cute couple! Such a beautiful setting! You’ve captured it perfectly in your photos!

Three words to describe James and Kristina’s wedding: heartfelt. gorgeous. party!

There were tears and smiles, laughter and hugs – Kristina and James’s wedding had it all. The rain even held off for their gorgeous outdoor ceremony on the lawn of the Tarkio River Lodge in Tarkio, MT. Everyone’s crossed fingers must have helped!

Kristina’s dog, Huckleberry, even joined in the ceremony and had a great time watching James dip Kristina in their first kiss as newlyweds.

The couple’s friends and family had a blast celebrating with Kristina and James, and tore it up on the dance floor, courtesy of some rockin’ tunes by the Whiskey Rebellion. (Seriously – these folks know how to get down! The barn floor was bouncing!)

And James, to top off the night, performed a garter toss performance that is one for the ages – he danced, he teased, he became a ninja (those tux ties can really come in handy), and he stealthily pulled the garter off with just his teeth before making the day of a young man in the group of single guys.

Seriously, you two – I had such a wonderful time photographing your wedding, and I don’t think I stopped smiling ’til the next morning. Thank you so much for the opportunity to document such joy!

Here’s to a long life together full of happiness, love and your wonderful sense of humor!

Through your photos you can see how much fun this couple, family, and friends had on their wedding day. Love the dog, too!

Though it was a bit of a rainy day for Gabby and Ashley’s wedding at the Double Arrow Lodge in Seeley Lake, Montana, the droplets didn’t dampen their spirits one bit – and heck – it even gave us all a beautiful rainbow later on.

Gabby and Ashley’s vows to each other were simply lovely and heartfelt, and their family and friends erupted in cheers as the brides walked down the aisle after their first kiss as newlyweds.

Thank you for allowing me to capture your wedding day! I had such a wonderful time (you two rock, and you’ve got awesome family and friends). I cannot emphasize enough my congratulations to you both! Here’s to a long life together full of love and happiness!

    SO beautiful!

  • Marisa says:

Kristine, Thank you so much for taking these wonderful photos. I’m pretty sure my legs have never looked so good in a photo. The purple heels might have helped a bit though. Thanks for helping to make this day special (despite the rain!) for Ashley and Gabby.

  • Daisy – thank you!
Marisa – oh, you’re so very welcome – it was absolutely my pleasure! What a wonderful day! And thanks for being my bouquet/leg model. :) Way to rock those purple heels.

Daisy and Erik couldn’t have had better springtime weather for their simple and sweet outdoor wedding at Fort Missoula and their lively reception at both the Loft and Stensrud building in Missoula. Clouds threatened rain, but it held off, giving Daisy and Erik two perfect days to spend with family and friends. (And lots and lots of cake – I like the way they think!)

Cribbage made its way into their vows (remember their engagement session?), as did laughter and a few tears. But mostly there were smiles and excitement and of course, lots and lots of love.

Thanks so much, you two! You are going to have a beautiful life together – I wish you all the best in your move south and I’m serious about treating you to drinks the next time you’re in town. :)

I spent the last several days at the Big Sky Photo Summit, in Big Sky, Montana, learning from fabulous photographers Dane Sanders, Mike Colón, and Tamara Lackey. To put it simply – this photo summit was wonderful. Absolutely and completely. (Thank you Tracy Moore!) Not only because we were learning so much from our presenters, but because we all made great friends with the photographers who attended this workshop. We inspired one another, we laughed, we cried (yep, we cried), and we had a blast.

For me personally, I was launched back to a time in my life when I was working at Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky as a lowly housekeeper. I did this during my summers in between undergraduate years at Carleton College. The job…eh, not so hot. Housekeeping is in no way glamorous especially when you’re wielding toilet brushes on a daily basis. (As a side note: Be nice to your housekeepers! We really appreciate it and notice when you are kind to us. And being kind is as simple as saying “hi.”)  But I wasn’t there for the job. I was there to be in Montana and to get back to my roots. I was there to push myself and step out of my comfort zone. I went to the ranch not knowing a soul, and ended up meeting some of the most amazing people I have ever met. It still holds true to this day.

The summers working at the ranch were some of the very best in my life. My friends and I would drink tea and draw beautiful pictures in the warm sunlight. We’d drive to the green bridge along the Gallatin, and leap off the steel edge into the frigid water, laughing and yelping from the cold. We’d explore waterways, find secret plank diving boards, and eat ice cream still soaked from our water adventures. We’d hike and backpack and camp and witness shooting stars so big and beautiful and glowing, we wondered if what we’d seen was actually something real. We’d talk late into the starry, starry nights about our dreams and hopes and fears, wrapped in cozy blankets sitting on the porch of crew housing. We’d get caught hiking in thunderstorms so violent and awesome that we’d be soaked through, wringing our braids out as we ran back to the car pelted by fat, warm raindrops over muddy trails. We’d cry with one another as we helped each other through personal tragedies. We’d sit in the ranch hot tub after hours, late in the evening, and run giggling to jump in the nearby creek to shock our systems with the freezing mountain water. We lived life to its very fullest.

Every.   Single.   Day.

Those summers awakened me in a way I had never dreamed of. They also awakened me to the need to document what I was experiencing. I tried. But I didn’t have the knowledge at the time to make great images. Those memories aren’t lost to me. They still exist in my mind, and I hope always will. But I don’t have the ability to share them with others except through my words.

This is why I chose to pursue photography. And I did. I took classes in film at Carleton. And I awakened something even greater – the knowledge that this was what I was supposed to do in life. I graduated with a BA in English, knowing I needed something more. I went to grad school for photojournalism. I worked at some amazing newspapers and met more wonderful people along the way. And then I started this business officially.

And here I am. Stirred by my own nostalgia and memories and grateful to be doing something I love so you can retain your memories and nostalgia in a tangible way.

Thank you to everyone at the workshop who helped me re-remember these things. I can’t tell you how much it means to me.

And now for a few of my favorite photos from our time together at the summit. We participated in a bridal shoot with Mike Colón and a fantastic local model, we were witness to Tamara Lackey’s wonderful interactions with adorable little kiddos (and noticed the irony of a paparazzi sign in the lodge), and we photographed alongside Dane Sanders for an engagement session.

Life is good. Thanks for sticking with me through this lengthy post. On to the photos!
