Hi all! It’s been a bit since I’ve posted on here, but for good reason as I’ve been super busy behind-the-scenes. And I’m SO excited to share the video project I’ve been working on for the past couple months. Back in March I was asked to help produce a video for LEEF, the Ladysmith Educational Enrichment Fund for the School District of Ladysmith in Ladysmith, Wisconsin (my alma mater), that would encourage people to donate to the fund in its last push to become self-sustainable and benefit kids for years and years in perpetuity. If you’re unfamiliar with LEEF, it’s a fund that benefits all the students in the Ladysmith School District in Wisconsin. It helps provide funding for activities, projects, and equipment that the school (and school kids) in one of the poorest counties in the nation might not otherwise be able to afford – so it’s a big deal!
As an aside, when I was filming I spoke with an elementary school teacher who told me that her request for a pencil sharpener had been denied because there was no budget for it. A PENCIL SHARPENER, you guys. That’s how dire things are in this particular school district. In order to get said pencil sharpener for her students, she asked for it for Christmas from her sister. Her sister gave her one, and that’s how her classroom ended up getting one. This is just one example of how teachers give so much to their classrooms, both personally and professionally, and if we can do more to help schoolchildren and teachers, we absolutely SHOULD.
So, if that little anecdote or the video below tugs at your heartstrings – even if you have absolutely no connection to this school district – I still encourage you to PLEASE take a moment to watch this video (in HD and with sound on!), and share, share, SHARE! I believe wholeheartedly in giving kids as much access to quality education as possible (and I’m so grateful to have benefited from a wonderful education provided by some amazing, dedicated teachers in this same school district who were all about making sure we had access to solid, enriching educational opportunities), and the more people who see this video, the more likely the fund will reach its sustainability goal!
And, of course, please consider donating a few bucks (or more) yourself! Currently any dollar amount you donate will be matched, so it’s a great opportunity to make your contribution go further!
If you’re interested in donating, watch this video for further info, and e-mail leef.endowment@gmail.com to express your interest in contributing to the fund, and get those wheels rolling to help benefit kids in the Ladysmith School District for years and years to come!
(As a sidenote, but a very important one: I want to thank each and every person who gave their time to this project to make it happen – you know who you are, and it wouldn’t have been possible without you! Thank you!)
Here’s to furthering kids’ educational opportunities and enriching them as much as we possibly can – they’re our future and they deserve it!
On the docket:
Food photography, engagement sessions and more! Stay tuned!
Cheers!
