I've got to tell you, I was beyond flattered when Bonnie contacted me about doing Missoula family pictures in the spring with her partner, Josh, and 6-month-old baby girl, Ro. Bonnie's a fellow photographer and journalism school graduate (she attended Berkeley's j-school), and does beautiful work - both photographically and written. She and her darling little family were going to be in Missoula again to visit (Bonnie had an internship with the Missoula Independent a couple years ago and we met through mutual friends), and I was so excited to see them again, especially with the newest addition to their family, little Ro! I seriously cannot ...
Andrea + Mike :: Spring Engagement Session in the Missoula Hills
As has been the theme in my recent posts, it has been a damp, damp spring in Montana. Which I'm a fan of, don't get me wrong - if we can keep the green a bit longer and avoid fire season then I'm all for it. But it also means that scheduling sessions has required some creativity, probably a little bit of hand-wringing, and perhaps some subtle (or not so subtle) murmuring to the radar on my weather app to "just push the storm over that way a little, pretty pretty please!" Thankfully that pleading with my weather app worked (well, we'll pretend it did anyway) for Andrea and Mike's spring engagement session in the Missoula hills. It had been ...
Deanna + Michael :: Glacier National Park Elopement at Lake McDonald
You never know what kind of weather you're going to get when you're in Glacier National Park. And with all the rain (and snow!) we've been experiencing this spring I was certainly crossing my fingers that Deanna and Michael's Glacier National Park elopement at Lake McDonald wouldn't be totally rained out. But wouldn't you know it, after adjusting our shoot date a bit, we were treated to an absolutely beautiful (albeit chilly!) spring day! I was beyond happy, as were Deanna and Michael who had traveled to Glacier all the way from North Carolina to celebrate their elopement. They had never been to Glacier before, but they were both keen on ...
The Tupelo Grille :: Restaurant Food Photography in Whitefish Montana
Here's a little tidbit about me you may not know...I love food. Like lo-o-OOOVE it. I love making it. I love devouring it. I love sharing it with others. (In fact, I have my own food blog, albeit a sorely neglected one because I seriously need something like 89 hours in the day to do everything I'd like to do.) BUT. Something I may love just as much as all these things put together and maybe even MORE (did I just admit to that?!), is photographing it. Food is pretty, folks. Hella pretty. So when Paul, the manager at The Tupelo Grille called me up to talk to me about doing some restaurant food photography in Whitefish Montana for their brand ...
Becka, Stephan, Blayz, Brodee and Daisy :: Springtime Family Photos in Missoula
It is a complete understatement to say just how much fun it was making Becka, Stephan, Blayz, Brodee and Daisy's springtime family photos in Missoula. Becka was so positive and happy about this shoot as we talked about setting it up, so I knew we'd have a great time, and boy did we ever! We managed to snag ourselves a perfect spring evening - the light was golden, the grass was lush and green, and it was just beckoning everyone to have fun and play! And play we did! That's something I love doing in family sessions, especially with kids where it can be challenging for them to hear "hold still," "let me fix your hair," "smile!" That rarely ...
Christine + Anders :: Missoula Montana Springtime Engagement
There's something so wonderful about photographing in the spring - it's not too hot, not too cold (very Goldilocks-esque!), everything is a lush green and bursting with vibrancy, and the light is beginning to get extra sweet. Add Christine and Anders to the mix and you have a truly perfect Missoula Montana springtime engagement! It's a huge understatement to say just how much FUN we had during their engagement session the other day. We were cracking up like nobody's business! I was just so darn excited to photograph these two, especially since Christine and I had had such a great chat on the phone when we were initially talking about ...
The Lubbers Family :: Missoula Family Portraits in the Spring
I was so happy to hear from the Lubbers family as they were really excited to get some Missoula family portraits in the spring, and also celebrate the recent second birthday of their littlest one. Sadie was so enthusiastic about their session when she contacted me, so I knew we'd have a great time taking advantage of the lush landscapes we've got right now (thanks to all that rain we've been getting lately!). Speaking of rain, we were a little nervous we might get a few drops headed our direction, but luckily the weather held out and we were treated to a gorgeous springtime evening in Missoula for their family portraits. As the gray, fluffy ...
On Assignment :: Winds of Change Magazine Shoot with Cody Sifford
In early March I had the pleasure of heading north to photograph Cody Sifford for a Winds of Change magazine shoot. The Pohly Company out of Boston, Massachusetts had contacted me to shoot images of Cody who was their cover feature (along with a story inside). I always love doing editorial work (to hearken back to my photojournalism background), so I was super excited to hear how eager the Pohly Company was to work with me on this shoot. Thankfully our shoot date didn't get rained or snowed out due to the wet weather we'd been experiencing, so I met up with Cody to make some cover-worthy portraits to go along with his magazine feature. He ...
Photography Gear Review :: Photo Pie Backdrop Review
A while back I received a photography backdrop to check out from the company Photo Pie Backdrops, which is based out of Burley, Idaho. (Hey neighbors!) I'm finally just now getting a chance to check it out, and thought I'd write up a quick Photo Pie backdrop review since the company was kind enough to send this to me at no charge (thanks guys!). Typically I don't use a ton of backdrops since I generally don't spend a whole lot of time shooting "set up" scenarios. What this means is that I'm usually photographing people in spaces without making any additions or adjustments of my own because I'm documenting them as they are. Or I'm shooting ...
Emilia :: First Birthday Party Celebration in Frenchtown, Montana
It's been such a treat getting to work with Emilia's family these past several months, so to be able to document her very first birthday party celebration at her grandpa's house in Frenchtown was super special. All sorts of friends and family were there to help Emilia celebrate and the house was decorated to the nines with balloons, pictures and streamers of all sorts to really get the first birthday mood set! Emilia snacked on pineapple and carrots and doled out hugs as birthday guests packed the house in preparation for the party to really get started. Soon it was time for the "Happy Birthday" song to be sung to the birthday girl, and ...
