Upon first chatting with Kristina and Ben about their upcoming Darby Montana elopement at the Triple Creek Ranch, I knew that we'd have such a fabulous time making images for the two of them. They love the outdoors, are beyond sweet, and were really excited about visiting Montana for the first time. It also didn't hurt that Kristina's a fellow redhead, and we even share the same initials! I tell you, Meant. To. Be! (And as Kristina would say, "Kismet!") The day of their elopement arrived, and I think we were all a little nervous about how the weather would behave (or misbehave). It had been raining for days and days (which, in Montana, you ...
Hannah + Laura :: Stevensville Montana Engagement Session
There's nothing quite as perfect as a sunny Montana evening hanging out with two fantastic people, and Hannah and Laura's Stevensville Montana engagement session certainly lived up to that description! Technically, Hannah and Laura were married this past September, so this was more of a "belated" engagement session, but still, absolutely just as fun. We started out by photographing them with their dog, Dorothy, and their cat, Sherman - who are both just a cute as bugs in a rug, and clearly in adoration of their parents. Dorothy was one happy lady, and was pretty excited about the whole session and Sherman acted like he'd been born for his ...
Amelia and her Family :: Baby Outdoor Cake Smash and Family Photos
It's an understatement to say how much of a treat it was to meet up with Amanda, Travis, Robbie and Amelia again (I had the pleasure of making family photos for them this past autumn, too!). This time it was to make some baby outdoor cake smash and family photos - with Amelia as the star of the show to celebrate her upcoming first birthday! (Happy, happy birthday, Amelia!) Our session took place on a beautiful 82-degree day (in May - holy moly!), and we started out by making some non-cake photos first. It was so fun to walk through the woods with these four, tiptoeing down the length of large logs, finding dandelions, discovering a variety ...
Emily + John :: College Graduation and Couples’ Photos
College graduation is such a time of excitement, joy and pure anticipation of getting out there in the real world and practicing what you've learned! I always love making graduation portraits - whether that's for seniors in high school or seniors in college. So when Emily contacted me about making college graduation and couples' photos with her boyfriend, John, I knew we'd have a fantastic time making these images to celebrate such a wonderful milestone in her life. It was a bit of a windy, chilly day for our session, but Missoula in springtime is just gorgeous no matter what the weather decides to do. We had such a fun time on the ...
Kim + John :: Missoula “Just Because” Portrait Session
Kim and John's Missoula "Just Because" portrait session was such a treat to photograph, made even sweeter by what Kim told me about the two of them before we met up for our shoot. Kim moved out to Montana in January for a job, and John has been back in the midwest tying up some loose ends before he gets to move out here as well. He is able to visit Montana fairly frequently, but that's still a long time to be apart. So, Kim told me that she wanted to make some images of the two of them so she could have some nice photos to enjoy for those in between times. Hence, their "Just Because" session! Thankfully Montana's spring weather treated ...
Author James Lee Burke and his Montana Ranch :: Reportage Photo Assignment for RÉA Agency in Paris, France
A couple weeks ago, I received a message from Agence RÉA in Paris, France, asking me if I'd be interested in an assignment photographing James Lee Burke and his Montana ranch for the French magazine, Le Point. Oh my, twist my arm, YES! So off I went on a foggy, damp Montana Valentine's Day to hang out with Jim, listen to his incredible stories, and even get to meet his four sweet horses. I walked up to the door of his ranch, and he and his wife, Pearl, greeted me with smiles and a warm welcome and offers of tea. We sat down at his kitchen nook and spoke while we both munched on chocolate covered almonds. It didn't take long for Jim to ...
Miss H. :: Stevensville Boudoir Photos
It was such a treat to get to work with Miss H. the other day to make these Stevensville boudoir photos as a gift for her husband, and as a gift for herself as well. (Also, thank you again, H, for being so gracious and allowing me to share a few images on the blog!) I met her at her home and, wouldn't you know it, we found a perfect little nook with seriously gorgeous light to work with too! I can't emphasize enough how fun and special these boudoir sessions are - I love being able to help women see themselves as they truly are - beautiful inside and out. Thank you again, H, for such a fantastic session, and again, for sharing these ...
Miss S. :: Missoula Boudoir Pictures
I can't emphasize enough just how fun it was to make Miss S.'s Missoula boudoir pictures, as a gift to her husband AND herself (yay for being strong, beautiful women!). She was so full of energy and excitement and fantastic ideas, and I swear, we giggled our way through most of her session, which is always, always a blast! S incorporated lights into her session, all sorts of great outfits - both casual and sensual - and I kid you not, we were giddy thinking about how awesome of a surprise gift this was going to be. Thank you again, S, for being so kind and allowing me to share a few of your photos on this blog! You did such a fabulous ...
Protecting your Digital Files :: Ways to Keep your Data Safe and your Sanity Intact!
I receive questions about protecting your digital files often enough that I figured it was worth writing a post to tell you about the ways in which I keep my data safe. The number one thing to realize when it comes to digital files and data is that wherever you're storing it, that storage option (if it's mechanical) WILL FAIL. At some point. It might fail way down the road, or it might fail tomorrow, but it will indeed fail. And even if your mechanical storage option doesn't fail, what if your house floods, or it burns down to the ground, or the Millennium Falcon mistakenly uses your roof as an (unfortunate) landing pad*, or your roommate ...
Madison :: Florence Montana Newborn Photos
I'm always excited to get to photograph a lifestyle newborn session, and Madison's Florence Montana newborn photos were the epitome of what I love most about these sessions - a sweet, new baby in her first home, being absolutely showered in love by her parents. Scott and Lindsay couldn't take their eyes off their baby girl, and for good reason - she's absolutely adorable! Madison was a total superstar for her session, and pretty alert and interested in the snaps of the camera shutter. She definitely enjoyed all the mommy and daddy kisses she received, and to our delight, treated us to a few little smiles here and there. Madison, ...
