Wintertime months are typically the slower season in my business in terms of shoots - however, I can assure you I'm certainly not sitting around eating bon bons with my feet up (which really doesn't even sound all that appealing anyway!). The slower season just means that I'm busy working behind the scenes on many things to refresh my business (updating designs, portfolios, learning new techniques, etc.) and myself (working on personal photography projects, etc.) since I can't usually do this when I'm shooting and editing regularly. So I'm excited to say that the blog has been given a refresh and a facelift! I've long been wanting a clean, ...
Mountain Running :: {Lolo and Trapper’s Missoula Pet Portraits}
I have a huge soft spot for animals and love capturing them doing what they love, so when Pam contacted me to ask about making some portraits of her two dogs, Trapper and Lolo, I was more than a little excited. And we had SO much fun! Trapper and Lolo were thrilled to be out running in Missoula's snow and the sun, though I think they thought our walk was a little strange (why do you silly humans keep stopping to make clicking noises with that boxy contraption?), but they were so good and I think we all left with perma-grins plastered to our faces. We've also come to the conclusion that Trapper had better start working on L.L. Bean to get ...
Thank you for a Wonderful 2014! :: {Missoula Year in Photos}
2014 is quickly coming to a close (T-minus about 6 hours as I write this post), and what a wonderful year it was! Words really can't even begin to say how grateful I am to everyone I've gotten to know and work with over this past year, and those of you who've I've continued relationships with as well. You have all touched my heart, and have left me with so many happy memories as I've shared moments with you throughout the year. YOU are the reason I do what I do and why I love what I do, so thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart! It wasn't an easy task to choose just a few of my favorite images from most of my ...
Montanniversary :: {Aaron and Sarah’s Missoula, Montana Anniversary Photos}
Last year, after enjoying my friend Ali's annual Montana visit, she and I couldn't help but chit chatting about how we needed to get her brother, Aaron, and his wife, Sarah, to visit the following year as well. This set into motion an idea that we'd surprise them with a Montana anniversary photo session to celebrate their first year of marriage. Fast forward one year and Ali and I were giddy to finally make this idea happen. After spending the most delightful day taking a quick hike to some hot springs, soaking in the placid pools, dashing into cold creeks to cool off, scarfing down huckleberries, and hitting up a backwoods saloon for ...
Kisses in the Rain :: {Christine and Pete’s Missoula Wedding at the Gibson Mansion}
A major storm loomed on Christine and Pete's Gibson Mansion Missoula wedding, and folks constantly checked the radar and glanced at the sky as the day progressed. But Christine and Pete are so laid back, and so happy, that it didn't faze them one bit. This didn't come as a surprise to me, since we had such a blast during their engagement session - these two are totally in love and I knew that's all that mattered to them. And the thing is - it rained - heck - it poured! But it was absolutely beautiful, truly unique and added to the many happy memories of their day. To start the day off, Christine readied herself in the mansion, smiling ...
Skipping Rocks and Sharing Smiles :: {Ashley, Adam and Iris’s Missoula Family Photos}
Autumn days are some of my favorites - oftentimes there's still lingering warmth from the summer, but something changes that sets it apart from those long warm days - the scent in the air shifts as the leaves turn color and fall to the ground, and the air feels a bit more crisp. Ashley, Adam, their daughter, Iris, and I all got together to make the most of this time of year and create some Missoula family photos of them just having a good time with one another, skipping rocks, giggling, running through the grass, dancing, and playing in the water. I love these types of sessions where everyone gets to just "be," and enjoy interacting with ...
Love Amongst the Leaves :: {Kelci and Michael’s Missoula, Montana Engagement Photos}
There is something just so magical about autumn - maybe it's because it feels like its beauty can be so fleeting so we must absolutely soak it up while we can. The leaves are green one day, and then suddenly there's a chill in the air, the clouds turn a dark gray, the sky seems bluer against that gray, the light turns a bit more golden and whammo! we're surrounded by a world full of brilliant oranges, golds and reds. Kelci, Michael and I definitely made the most of the truly stunning autumn Missoula was treated to this year, and though it was a wee bit on the chilly side during our shoot, they toughed it out and we all had such a great ...
Married in Montana :: {Riki and Paul’s Missoula Wedding}
From the moment Riki and I chatted on the phone about her wedding day, I knew it was going to be beautiful and full of emotion (we may or may not have teared up on the phone together - it was a very sweet moment!). And their wedding day absolutely was - everyone readied themselves inside the church, and Riki and Paul were eager to see each other for the first time. Their first look was exceptionally sweet, and included some very happy tears. Soon family and friends began to arrive, smiling and hugging as they greeted one another. As Riki walked down the aisle to her groom, Paul beamed at his beautiful bride. Throughout their ceremony ...
Married in Mad Town! :: {Anna and Alex’s Madison, Wisconsin Wedding}
I've got to admit - I was beyond giddy when Anna and Alex asked me if I'd photograph their wedding. You see, Anna and I go waaaaay back to when we were little tykes. Her older sister, Christine, and I were best friends (colloquially known as "The Christines"), so we all spent a lot of time together. We exercised our imaginations in the woods by their house, we made silly plays together (that we forced our very patient parents to watch), we turned garage attics into forts, we always tried to persuade our parents to indulge us in Grandpa's Pizza on Wednesday nights, we celebrated birthdays together, we had slumber parties and ate ...
Sunsets, Mountains and Love :: Betsy and Cameron’s Missoula Wedding at the Ranch Club
Betsy, Cameron and I have had so much fun together since the moment we met - their engagement session was a blast and I knew their Missoula wedding at the Ranch Club wouldn't be any different. They absolutely lived up to their fun-loving, sweet nature, and the moment I saw Betsy and Cameron, they were beaming, excited and ready to get married! They planned their wedding to take place a little later in the evening, so we definitely took advantage of that yummy late-evening golden hour and traipsed around the Ranch Club's grounds to soak up the sun. (And Betsy gets kudos for navigating that hillside!) Their wedding party was a great group of ...
