Dimitri and Jenn, along with their immediate family, traveled up to Montana from California for their September Triple Creek Ranch elopement. And boy, was it ever a perfect day for these two to promise their love to each other! We started the day out by zipping around to some pretty sweet vistas overlooking the Bitterroot mountains, and were treated to a blue sky day — a bit of a rarity during a fairly smoky summer! Autumn colors had even started to pop in amongst the greenery, which made the most stunning backdrop for some fun portraits of the soon-to-be-married couple. After making our images (and kudos to Dimitri and Jenn for ...
Bite-sized sweets :: Whitefish Montana food photography
It's no secret that I absolutely love food photography, and getting to document beautiful baked goods for a Whitefish Montana food photography branding shoot was every bit as delightful as I expected it would be. The sweet treats I photographed were "bite-sized sweets to celebrate with," and feature lavish, spirit-infused sweets. In fact, the cupcakes are inspired by cocktails! (And I can attest to the fact that they are absolutely delicious!) The goal was to convey more of a moody, intimate look in the images we created for the brand. Lots of greens and jewel tones emphasized the standout quality of the baked goods created for the ...
The Dandelion Catering :: Missoula food photography
I was so excited to hear from Tara of The Dandelion Catering that she needed some Missoula food photography for her new business venture, for a couple reasons: 1) Because she is just about the most awesome person ever and 2) I knew her food would be incredible and so much fun to photograph. Our shoot day rolled around, and thankfully we were set to shoot in the morning, because Missoula was in the process of being plagued by a ridiculously long stretch of 90+ degree temps. And, if you've ever cooked in hot weather before, you'll understand why we were hoping beyond hope that Tara and her team would be treated to a day that wasn't roasting ...
Baby S :: Lolo Montana Newborn Photos
I was so tickled to hear from Joanna and Taylor that they were expecting a little boy (I'd photographed their wedding back in 2019), and that they wanted to have baby S's Lolo Montana newborn photos at The Jack, where they had been married! Even more special was that our session date was originally S's due date. This adorable little guy was two weeks old at his session and he was such a sweetheart. He snoozed a bit, didn't fuss, and generally had a good time chilling out, looking around at all the trees surrounding him. He especially loved snuggles from his parents and grandparents, and enjoyed grasping the occasional finger here and ...
Kristan, Ben, Lincoln + Cormac :: Summertime family photos in Missoula
It is always such a huge treat getting to photograph Kristan and Ben's family — and this year's summertime family photos in Missoula allowed me to photograph not only 4-year-old Lincoln, but his little brother (and newest addition to the family), 10-month-old Cormac as well! I've been photographing their family for the past couple years (minus 2020, because pandemic times), and it's been so much fun watching Lincoln grow! Equally heartwarming (and simultaneously hilarious) was getting to see Lincoln interact with his little brother, too. There were lots of giggles, some toe and arm nibbles (because there was a shark theme going on), and ...
Erin + Chris :: Missoula Summer Maternity Photos
I was so excited to meet up with Erin and Chris for their Missoula summer maternity photos. I hadn't yet connected with them because their maternity session (and upcoming newborn portraits) were a gift from Erin's sisters. (Side note: what an amazingly thoughtful gift to give!) When I met them for their maternity session, it turns out that Erin and I had met a few years back during the "For Women's Only" ski program at Snowbowl. (Funny how small towns work like that!) It was so nice to see her again in this new stage of her life, and we had such a fantastic time making images to celebrate her mama-ness. Their 10-year-old border collie ...
Matthew + Andrew :: Woodson Ranch Wedding in Sheridan Montana
After a couple years of planning and several delays (you know, because pandemic times), I was beyond delighted to document Matthew and Andrew's Woodson Ranch Wedding in Sheridan Montana. Not only is the ranch absolutely gorgeous, it's also incredibly special to Matthew and his family. His grandfather purchased the ranch when he was born and his family has been running it ever since as part of the Ruby Habitat Foundation (which is super cool — check it out!). Matthew spent three summers working on the ranch, as well as many summers visiting it. After having met Andrew, they would visit the ranch often. And, in fact, they even got engaged ...
Janelle :: Missoula Senior Photos in the Spring
Senior photos are some of my favorite images to make. And Janelle's Missoula senior photos in the spring were no exception. I was so excited to meet her and her mom and accompany them to one Janelle's most favorite places up Deep Creek. (Janelle's mom hadn't even been there before, and neither had I!) It's a rocky beach area right along the river, with beautiful view of the mountains. Janelle told me that she loves to go there to hang out with her friends as they run their dogs. And she especially loves it because it's got amazing sunsets. Driving to this location was a long, bumpy journey, and I've got to admit, I was a little worried ...
Rachael + Joe :: Missoula Springtime Maternity Photos
I always love documenting people during new stages of their lives, and I was so excited when Rachael reached out to me about making Missoula springtime maternity photos to celebrate such a special time as she and her partner, Joe, await the arrival of their first child. As we walked and talked during their shoot, they told me that their little boy is due at the end of May. He'll be joining two older fur siblings, one of whom made a cameo in this session as well. Rookie, their mini doodle, was beyond excited for his moment in front of the lens and could barely contain himself. But he absolutely knew how to work it for the camera and flashed ...
Vicki Baker :: Institute for Justice Shoot
A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of doing another shoot for the Institute for Justice, this time featuring Vicki Baker. When the photo editor for IJ told me a little bit about Vicki's story and case, I honestly was in disbelief. It's truly shocking to hear what she has gone through. And even more unbelievable when you see the printed photographs depicting the destruction of her home. As a quick summary of her story, Vicki was ready to sell her home in Texas, but right before a new owner was about to close on the property, a fugitive broke into the house with a girl he had taken hostage. He released the girl to safety, but he told ...
