College graduation is such a time of excitement, joy and pure anticipation of getting out there in the real world and practicing what you've learned! I always love making graduation portraits - whether that's for seniors in high school or seniors in college. So when Emily contacted me about making college graduation and couples' photos with her boyfriend, John, I knew we'd have a fantastic time making these images to celebrate such a wonderful milestone in her life. It was a bit of a windy, chilly day for our session, but Missoula in springtime is just gorgeous no matter what the weather decides to do. We had such a fun time on the ...
Kim + John :: Missoula “Just Because” Portrait Session
Kim and John's Missoula "Just Because" portrait session was such a treat to photograph, made even sweeter by what Kim told me about the two of them before we met up for our shoot. Kim moved out to Montana in January for a job, and John has been back in the midwest tying up some loose ends before he gets to move out here as well. He is able to visit Montana fairly frequently, but that's still a long time to be apart. So, Kim told me that she wanted to make some images of the two of them so she could have some nice photos to enjoy for those in between times. Hence, their "Just Because" session! Thankfully Montana's spring weather treated ...
Author James Lee Burke and his Montana Ranch :: Reportage Photo Assignment for RÉA Agency in Paris, France
A couple weeks ago, I received a message from Agence RÉA in Paris, France, asking me if I'd be interested in an assignment photographing James Lee Burke and his Montana ranch for the French magazine, Le Point. Oh my, twist my arm, YES! So off I went on a foggy, damp Montana Valentine's Day to hang out with Jim, listen to his incredible stories, and even get to meet his four sweet horses. I walked up to the door of his ranch, and he and his wife, Pearl, greeted me with smiles and a warm welcome and offers of tea. We sat down at his kitchen nook and spoke while we both munched on chocolate covered almonds. It didn't take long for Jim to ...
Madison :: Florence Montana Newborn Photos
I'm always excited to get to photograph a lifestyle newborn session, and Madison's Florence Montana newborn photos were the epitome of what I love most about these sessions - a sweet, new baby in her first home, being absolutely showered in love by her parents. Scott and Lindsay couldn't take their eyes off their baby girl, and for good reason - she's absolutely adorable! Madison was a total superstar for her session, and pretty alert and interested in the snaps of the camera shutter. She definitely enjoyed all the mommy and daddy kisses she received, and to our delight, treated us to a few little smiles here and there. Madison, ...
Janelle + Jamie :: Griz Engagement Photos in Missoula Montana
It was rather chilly for Janelle and Jamie's Griz engagement photos in Missoula, but that didn't stop us from having a great time together. We met up at the University of Montana for the first part of their engagement session, since Janelle and Jamie actually met each other at a Griz game! As luck would have it, we popped on into the stadium to make a few fun Griz-themed images and then strolled around campus to capture the iconic look and feel of the university. Their sweet dog, Zepley, was ready to get out in the mountains a bit more though. We had such a blast making images of the three of them with Missoula as their backdrop, and ...
Kristy, Dug & Sven :: Victor Montana Pet and Family Pictures
When people ask me to photograph them with their pets, I admittedly always get a little excited (ok, a LOT excited), because pets and their people are seriously the Best. Thing. Ever. And when I'm told that the session will include a puppy and an older dog too...well then. It's no surprise that my heart completely melted during Kristy's Victor Montana pet and family pictures. I met up with Kristy, Dug, her 10-year-old golden retriever, and Sven, her 12-week-old golden retriever puppy at Kristy's friend's ranch in Victor. It seriously couldn't have been a more idyllic setting - the ranch land is rugged and beautiful, and full of areas ...
Amanda, Travis, Robbie & Amelia :: Lolo Montana Family Pictures
It's always so fun to me to have the opportunity to make family pictures for people - maybe it's because I've always enjoyed looking at my own from years past, and remarking over how tiny we once were, how much we've all changed, but at the same time, how much we've all stayed the same, too. So it was such a treat to get to meet up with Amanda, Travis, Robbie and Amelia for their Lolo Montana family pictures the other day and capture some memories for them that they'll one day look back on as well. The weather was a little on the crazy side, but everyone was game, and we made it work for us. I'd say things turned out splendidly, even if ...
Azure :: Fall Senior Portraits in Missoula
It was a pretty chilly day for Azure's fall senior portraits in Missoula, but I'd say that braving the snow and rain (all while the sun was shining, mind you!) was completely worth having cold fingers and toes. We had a nice time wandering around in the woods, came across some cool old trees, and Azure's smile shined brightly alongside her deep blue eyes. I loved the warm, chocolate brown tones of her session, which seemed to make Azure's baby blues pop even more against that natural palette of our surroundings. Thanks again, Azure, for making the most of the cold and the wind! Here's to a great senior year and some warmer days for you ...
Shannon + Jud :: Missoula Engagement Photos in a Funky Airplane Boneyard
I always love it when couples have fun ideas for their photo shoot - and when Shannon and Jud told me they were thinking about doing their Missoula engagement photos in a funky airplane boneyard, I got more than a little excited. Like a LOT excited. Like clapping-of-my-hands-and-squealing-a-little-bit excited. (Shannon and Jud can totally vouch for that, too.) And then the day came. And the light and the clouds and the beat up old planes, and Shannon and Jud together - it was all to DIE for. I could barely contain myself. In fact, I think I may have been speaking gibberish at times because I couldn't get my words out quickly enough. So. ...
Christy + Neil :: Intimate Glacier National Park Wedding
Glacier National Park is a truly magical place, so when Christy and Neil got in touch with me about photographing their intimate Glacier National Park Wedding, I was so excited to hear about what they had in mind. And it. Was. Perfect. They both have strong connections to Glacier, and prior to their ceremony, went in search of a spot within the park that just felt right to them. That spot? The Trail of the Cedars. And it truly was right. Christy wowed Neil with their first look, and as guests began to arrive, they both hid away down the trail. Soon, their ceremony started and Christy and Neil made their way down the trail, tiny ...
