I constantly ask myself this question when shooting food photography: "How on earth can food be so darn gorgeous?" Here's how — so much of it has to do with the chef behind it, and Tara of Dandelion Catering is an absolute magician when it comes to her food's beauty and taste. Both are divine! We had such a great time during Dandelion Catering's spring food photography in Missoula Montana, and we even got to create some business branding imagery, too. Dandelion Catering's space is cozy, light, and bright, and immediately inviting. And for good reason — you will 100% want to hang out a while and let the delicious aromas waft over you as you ...
On assignment for People magazine :: “Half Their Size” Shoot in Stevensville Montana
I'm so excited to start off the new year by revealing that I was recently on assignment for People magazine for their "Half their Size" shoot in Stevensville, Montana. The lovely Jeannette Asbury was featured in this article, and this week the story went live — both on the front page of People's website, and in print. You can read Jeannette's story in the new issue on newsstands as we speak! This shoot was such a blast! People magazine's photo editor, Sarah Fernando, contacted me in early December to ask if I'd like to do the shoot (but I didn't know what I'd be photographing), and it was a no-brainer to say yes. Fast forward a bit and it ...
Simons family :: Missoula wintertime family photos
It is always such a pleasure to get to photograph the Simons family. And their Missoula wintertime family photos this year were such a treat to make! I think we've hit all four seasons now in our images together (woohoo!), and I was pretty excited that Mother Nature decided to surprise us with some snow flurries! Snowflakes and photography are an absolute favorite of mine, and it just made their session even more fun and dynamic! That said, it was pretty darn chilly for our session, so kudos to everyone for making it work and bringing some smiles to the table before our faces froze! The snow and the cold wasn't two-year-old Brayden's ...
Christy + Daisy :: Autumn best friend photos in Missoula
Initially Christy and I were planning on photographing her family together. However, one of her daughters had a sports obligation and couldn't make it to the shoot. And, what's a family shoot with someone missing? Definitely not the same! So, instead of canceling, Christy decided to invite her best friend, Daisy, to join her for autumn best friend photos in Missoula. And it couldn't have been more perfect! We were a little worried we might get rained out, so Christy and Daisy leaned into it, and decided to accessorize with rain jackets, boots, and umbrellas. Honestly — what a fun look they had! Perfect for the overcast day (it didn't ...
Emily + Andy :: Missoula Montana Autumn Engagement Photos
As I write this we're getting our first real snow of the season, and it sure makes me glad we had such a beautiful day for Emily and Andy's Missoula Montana autumn engagement photos! I was so excited to get to meet Emily and Andy for the first time (after having chatted with them for a while), and these two are are just beyond sweet together. There's an ease, a happiness, a warmth that's just so wonderfully apparent between them, which is so wonderful to see and document. And it's immediately clear how much in love they are with each other We had such a great time making these engagement photos for them, though Andy did admit to not ...
Baby B :: Missoula baby portraits
I was so excited to get to meet baby B and document his Missoula baby portraits. And, even at just a little over two months old, he was the most adorable little pro during his session! B loved to coo and smile at his daddy, and they both especially enjoyed sticking their tongues out at each other. As you might guess, this was basically about the cutest thing in the world to witness. I think we all melted a bit! Baby B's got opinions and character to beat the band! B's micro expressions were so sweet, and even when he was upset, his little jutting jaw was beyond cute. After making some photos outside with his mom and dad, we moved ...
Maxwell :: Missoula Montana High School Senior Photos
Max's Missoula Montana high school senior photos were so fun, as I expected they would be when his mom contacted me about making his images, and mentioned he was really interested in parkour. We met at the University of Montana to make his photos (and to give him plenty of things to bounce off of!), and had such a great time wandering the campus finding the perfect locations for his photos. As we walked, Max told me that he goes by Max or Maxwell...and that he even has one teacher who calls him Maxwellington (brilliant!). Max is a busy, busy guy! He's the co-captain of the Speech and Debate team at Sentinel High School, he works two ...
Katie, Anthony, Dominic + Luca :: Missoula Montana fall family portraits
I have absolutely loved getting to photograph Katie and Anthony and their growing family over the years. And their Missoula Montana fall family portraits this year were no exception! It was my first time meeting 2 1/2-year-old Luca, and I couldn't believe how much 4-year-old Dominic had grown since I last photographed him! And, of course, it's always so great getting to see Katie and Anthony again, and documenting them in their roles as truly amazing parents. We had such a wonderful time wandering around (despite a very smoky day due to a long summer of wildfires), and the boys had a blast playing in the sand, showing off their best ...
On assignment for Politico :: Montana photojournalist
Way back in July I was hired by Politico, a well known political news magazine (it has both an online and printed presence), to exercise my Montana photojournalist background, and make images for them for an upcoming article they were working on about Montana's newly designated 2nd congressional district (and the seat it opens up). My specific assignment was to cover a fundraising event held by the only Republican challenger of Ryan Zinke, as well as to document some of Zinke's properties in Whitefish. Fast forward to today, and I'm happy to say the article is live (as of right now, it's the cover story on Politico). It was such an ...
Dimitri + Jenn :: September Triple Creek Ranch Elopement
Dimitri and Jenn, along with their immediate family, traveled up to Montana from California for their September Triple Creek Ranch elopement. And boy, was it ever a perfect day for these two to promise their love to each other! We started the day out by zipping around to some pretty sweet vistas overlooking the Bitterroot mountains, and were treated to a blue sky day — a bit of a rarity during a fairly smoky summer! Autumn colors had even started to pop in amongst the greenery, which made the most stunning backdrop for some fun portraits of the soon-to-be-married couple. After making our images (and kudos to Dimitri and Jenn for ...
