It’s a huge understatement to say just how excited I was to hear that Becka and Stephan had gotten engaged, and even happier (and super flattered!) when they asked me to photograph their snowy wedding at the Barn on Mullan. Earlier this spring I had the pleasure of getting to make family photos for them and we just had an absolute blast, so I knew getting to photograph their wedding would be a total delight. And, no surprise, it was!

We were treated to a fresh dusting of snow, and had a few snowflakes softly floating down throughout their entire wedding day – talk about dreamy! Becka and Stephan both began their day getting ready with friends and family nearby. They were both all smiles, but I could tell they were eager to see each other for the first time in all their wedding finery.

Becka walked out to see Stephan for their first look, snowflakes dotting the air like party confetti, and Stephan broke into a huge grin as he saw his beautiful bride for the first time. The two hugged, kissed and laughed together before we all zipped on inside again to warm up. (It was super chilly!)

Soon it was time for their ceremony to begin. Friends and family were troopers and bundled up in the cold so Becka and Stephan could be married outside (with a small bonfire burning behind them – how cool!). As Becka walked down the aisle with her parents, both she and Stephan had smiles a mile wide as they saw each other again (and I think everyone else did too – the happiness these two enjoy is quite contagious, in the best way possible!).

They spoke their vows to one another, laughed as they exchanged rings and sealed it all with a kiss (actually a couple!) before walking down the aisle again, amidst cheers and high-fives all around, this time together as newlyweds.

Folks enjoyed mingling, munching on tasty appetizers, and were treated to a delicious meal, cake and cupcakes, and touching toasts that got everyone laughing, smiling, and maybe wiping away a tear or two as well.

It wasn’t long before everyone was out on the dance floor cutting a rug, laughing their heads off and just having a great old time. Kiddos dashed in and out of the barn as they filled themselves to the brim with s’mores over the bonfire, the moon behind them glowing in the clouds.

As the evening wound down, it became time to send off Becka and Stephan in style – and everyone did so with sparklers, cheers and plenty of love for the newly married couple.

Becka and Stephan! I don’t even know where to begin! I’m just so beyond happy for you both, and was so honored to be able to capture such a wonderful, wonderful day in your lives for you! You are so much fun to work with and to photograph, and I’m so excited to see you start this new chapter in your lives together. Here’s to smiles, laughter, and lots of love for years and years to come – congratulations again!

Despite the smoky skies that Montana has been plagued with during this last part of the summer (quite a departure from all the rain we were avoiding in the spring during their engagement session!), Andrea and Mike’s small wedding on Flathead Lake in Polson Montana at her uncle’s family cabin was beautiful. We could barely see the mountains across the lake, but I don’t think anyone minded as we were all focused on how happy Andrea and Mike were.

Their day started off with getting ready at the cabin. There was a fun energy in the air as Andrea’s sister, mother and friends helped her with her hair, makeup and putting together all the final details for the moment when she’d get to see Mike for the first time, each all decked out in their wedding day finest.

Andrea made her way down to the shoreline (in her beautiful emerald-green shoes!) to see Mike for the first time, and as he turned to catch the first glimpse of his bride, grins immediately leapt to their faces. They shared a sweet moment, we gathered the wedding party to make some fun portraits of everyone together, and soon it was time to prepare for their ceremony to start.

Guests took it all in from the shoreline as the wedding party walked out to the end of the dock, highlighted by the sunshine we were treated to that day, and framed by the wedding arch Andrea’s father made. I just love how Andrea and Mike held their ceremony on the dock – Andrea has been coming to her uncle’s cabin nearly her whole life, so this location holds a special sentimental value for many of the folks who attended their wedding.

Andrea and Mike exchanged vows with one another, grinning, laughing, and getting a little choked up as they promised their love to one another. And before they knew it, they sealed it all with a kiss, which turned into smiles and laughter walking down the aisle (or should I say, dock) as newlyweds.

Festivities continued as guests were treated to tapas and a dinner of street-tacos (a nod to Andrea and Mike’s ties to Arizona). Everyone mingled, laughed, dined and had a good time just hanging out and enjoying the lake, and were treated to tasty huckleberry cake later in the evening.

Andrea and Mike shared their first dance together down on the dock, and soon the music carried out onto the water and beckoned a few more folks to kick off their shoes and come kick up their heels as well.

The jet ski also beckoned, so Andrea changed into her reception dress (and Mike changed into his reception shorts), and it wasn’t long before they hopped onto the watercraft and took it for a little newlywed spin on the lake – a perfect end to a happy day!

Andrea and Mike! Thank you again for having me document your wedding day! I loved how sweet your wedding was, how kind all of your family and friends are, and seeing just how happy you two make one another. I hope you have many more trips to the lake in the future, filled with wonderful memories galore (which I’m sure won’t be a tall order in the least)! Congratulations again!

I swear, it feels like just yesterday that I was hanging out with Amber and Woody and making their engagement photos. And then bam! before you know it, July’s here and these two are looking super spiffy and having their Ronan Montana wedding at the Silver Knot! It’s sometimes difficult to believe just how quickly time flies, but that’s no surprise with these two as time truly does fly when you’re having fun.

And we sure did have fun during their wedding day! It all started out with documenting the ladies and gents getting ready. Amber held her vows close by, and Woody and the guys shared some good laughs as they pondered the intricacies of perfecting pocket squares.

Before we knew it (see, time flies, I tell you!), it was time for Amber and Woody’s first look. Amber wanted their first look to be down by the creek on the property (which also happened to be populated by a herd of cows), so we zipped on down there to document this special moment between the soon-to-be-newlyweds. They got a little teary through their shared smiles, but a nearby bull (yes, you read that right – a GIGANTIC BULL), began to get anxious and bellowed at us to get the heck out of there. (Which we did – no bull charges on the wedding party please and thank you!).

It wasn’t long before friends and family began to arrive and it was time for Amber and Woody’s ceremony to begin. They shared an incredibly touching and emotional set of vows, enjoyed plenty of laughs and kissed for the first time as husband and wife as their friends and family beamed at them and cheered.

Enjoying the backdrop of a perfect Montana evening, everyone was treated to delicious appetizers, a tasty dinner peppered with thoughtful and moving toasts, and delicious cake and huckleberry macarons.

Things moved outside again and onto the dance floor where Amber and Woody danced for the first time as a married couple. As Amber began to dance with her father, I don’t think there was a single dry eye in the house, and folks became misty-eyed all over again as Woody shared a dance with his mother, too.

Tears soon gave way to lively and energetic dancing and lots and lots of laughter. (What a fun crew you’ve got, Amber and Woody!) As the evening progressed, people continued to kick up their heels, and as the sun shifted to a golden glow, Amber, Woody and I took a moment to create a few more images and make the most of the Mission Mountains in the background – a perfect way to wrap up a fantastic day for these two.

Amber and Woody! I know I’m a word nerd, but words just can’t do justice to how truly wonderful it was to capture such a special day in your lives for you! I adore you both, and have loved every second of getting to work with you. You two have such a bright and happy future ahead of you, and I hope it will always involve plenty of visits to Montana, too. :) Here’s to you, and congrats, congrats, congrats again!!!

Brandon and Natalie had one heckuva happy wedding day for their Ronan Montana Sky Ridge Ranch wedding. Even though it was nearing (if not actually) 100 degrees, these two just went with it and had an absolute blast during their wedding day.

The afternoon started out with prepping for the big walk down the aisle. The girls got ready at a VRBO in St. Ignatius, and there were all sorts of laughs, hugs and a few tears as Natalie got ready to head to the ranch. Brandon and the guys prepped themselves for the day at the ranch, laughing and joking as they pinned boutonnieres on one another in between shots of Fireball enthusiastically passed around by the group.

Guests began to arrive and seat themselves facing the gorgeous Mission Mountains, and soon it was time for things to get rolling. Brandon was all smiles and excitement as he saw Natalie for the first time walking down the aisle on her father’s arm, a mixture of emotions flitting across her face. The two grinned and smiled at one another (and shed a few tears too) as they shared their heartfelt and touching vows in front of their friends and family, and were treated to a chorus of cheers as they were pronounced husband and wife for the first time.

The party continued in the barn and everyone was treated to tasty appetizers (including an oyster bar!), a scrumptious dinner, delicious cake and a series of toasts that got everyone simultaneously laughing and tearing up.

As the sun lazily slid lower in the sky, the celebrations moved outside and people began to dance, enjoy the atmosphere of the evening, and especially the alpenglow on the mountains. Brandon and Natalie were even treated to a full moon rising up behind the mountains, which was especially meaningful to them.

As the sky turned an inky black, friends and family lit sparklers and cheered to send off Brandon and Natalie into the night into their “getaway car.”

Brandon and Natalie! Thank you again for inviting me to capture all the happiness and love of your wedding day! It To see how happy you two make one another was just so special to witness and document, and I’m so glad you got to celebrate such a special day in Montana. Here’s to a life full of adventures and travel together (which should be easy for you two! :)), with many stops to Montana along the way! Congrats again!

Last year Ethan and Emily, both from Iowa, decided to take a vacation with Yellowstone being one of their stops. They loved their time in Montana so much that, fast forward to their wedding day, lo and behold they decided to have their Flying Horse Ranch wedding in Corvallis, Montana. And I’m so glad they did because what a wonderful day it was.

Their day started off with a super sweet first look between the two. Ethan was so excited to see Emily and the look on his face as he first turned around to behold his beautiful bride was so special. We continued having fun making photos of just the two of them before moving on to more of the family formals.

And we had such a blast. Ethan and Emily’s wedding was small, with only close friends and family partaking, but what a group they had there with them! We laughed so much and so often and just had such a great time making their more formal photos before it was time to get everyone ready to start their ceremony.

Emily was full of emotion as she walked down the aisle towards Ethan, but soon she burst into a huge smile and the two stood together at the altar with the blue of the mountains as their backdrop. There were tears and laughter, and everyone clapped as Ethan and Emily kissed for the first time as husband and wife.

The festivities continued into the evening with hilarious and touching toasts that had folks doubling over in laughter while simultaneously dabbing at tears in the corners of their eyes. And Ethan and Emily probably had one of the most epic cake-cuttings I’ve seen. It started out innocent, but…well, suffice it to say, it got a little messy. Emily was such a good sport, however, and the two easily laughed about their “cake smash” moment afterwards.

The music kicked on and soon everyone was out on the dance floor kicking up their heels and jumping around to the beats. The party moved outside a bit too as people mingled with one another, played some lawn games, and had a great time giggling and chatting as the evening wound down.

That evening we were treated to all sorts of wonderful light, and I’m so thankful Ethan and Emily were willing to “run for the light!” to get the best of the best of the sun as it quickly dipped behind the silhouettes of the mountains.

Ethan and Emily! I’m so glad you found me and invited me into such a wonderful day in your lives. I loved getting to meet you in person and had such a fantastic time getting to hang out with you, your family and friends, and make these images for you. Everyone was so sweet and had so many kind things to say (including you two, of course!) and that meant the world to me. Your love is so real and so beautiful, and the love you have for your friends and family (and they for you) was just such a treat to witness and document. I’m so glad Montana treated you so well! Here’s to a life together filled with joy and happiness, and many more Montana trips, too! :)

Springtime weddings in Montana mean you never know what you’re going to get weather-wise. You might find yourself experiencing rain, snow, sleet, hail, chilly temperatures, or warm sunlight. And wouldn’t you know it, Jessica and Ryan’s Alta Ranch wedding in Darby Montana gave us a little bit of all of those things!

As both Jessica and Ryan got ready for their ceremony, folks kept checking the sky to see what it was up to. Sun gave way to clouds, but despite that, we hoped that the rain would hold off. Soon ceremony time was just around the corner, and everyone began to make their way down the hill and towards the creek – all with umbrellas in tow. But the rain changed from drizzle to an all out downpour (sleeting and hailing at moments), and the radar wasn’t showing any break in the near future.

So, Jessica and Ryan went with it and quickly made a change in plans to hold their ceremony under an old airplane hangar on the ranch. The wedding party walked through the raindrops, but even though the wind whipped and the rain continued to fall, it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits in the least.

Ryan smiled at his bride as Jessica made her way up the aisle beaming with happiness, while her father held an umbrella for her. Jessica and Ryan’s mothers officiated their ceremony, and the couple’s dog of honor, Tsuga, even had a speaking role in their wedding, too. (He barked on command!)

The two spoke their touching and oftentimes hilarious vows to one another, and soon it was time to seal it all with a kiss. Friends and family cheered for the new couple as they made their way down the aisle and out of the hangar, and not long after everyone began to hug and a few tears flowed too as friends and family congratulated the newlyweds.

Thankfully Montana got the rain out of its system and we were treated to a blue sky, fluffy clouds and even some warm sunlight. (A welcome change from the 40-ish degrees it had been earlier!) Jessica, Ryan, Tsuga and I had a great time wandering the ranch and making fun portraits along a creek, a pond and an old bridge. We were even treated to sightings of multiple Western Tanagers and a pair of nesting bald eagles!

The festivities continued as people enjoyed dinner from the BBQ and eventually cakes and pie a bit later. Lively toasts to Jessica and Ryan elicited some big laughs, and afterwards people began to meander outside and into the sun again for a fantastic bouquet toss.

Jessica and Ryan! Thank you again for inviting me to document your wedding day! It was such a pleasure to get to make these images for you, and I had such a wonderful time meeting your family and friends, too. (You’ve got a truly kind crew in your lives!) You never know what kind of weather you’re going to get when you’re in Glacier National Park. And with all the rain (and snow!) we’ve been experiencing this spring I was certainly crossing my fingers that Deanna and Michael’s Glacier National Park elopement at Lake McDonald wouldn’t be totally rained out.

But wouldn’t you know it, after adjusting our shoot date a bit, we were treated to an absolutely beautiful (albeit chilly!) spring day! I was beyond happy, as were Deanna and Michael who had traveled to Glacier all the way from North Carolina to celebrate their elopement. They had never been to Glacier before, but they were both keen on the lake and its famed colored rocks.

Eloping in Glacier and making these special photos is more than a little meaningful for Deanna and Michael. They had actually attended high school together, but had never really spent any time with one another until Deanna was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer. As Deanna was going through her treatments, they began to talk, and the rest is history. (And, as an added bonus to their trip to Glacier, a week before eloping, Deanna was treated to the exceptional news that she is officially in remission! What a wedding gift!)

So it was certainly a time for celebration as Glacier treated us all to knockout views, beautiful light, and raging powerful waters. Because we were up there in the springtime, we also had the luxury of pretty much enjoying the park to ourselves (which is highly unusual!). So we traipsed about the open areas, marveled at the beauty around us, and I just adored seeing how much these two love one another.

Deanna is also a photographer so it was great to get to work with someone who knows what it’s like “behind the camera” too. Deanna picked out a blush-pink dress (just a subtle hint of pink) and had a bouquet of roses and peonies to match. We even had a happy little bumblebee (who also liked Deanna’s bouquet) hitch a ride with us for a while! Michael was ever-so-dapper in a smashing tux and wore a boutonnière to match Deanna’s bouquet. But all of their finery, while truly gorgeous, in my opinion was secondary to their complete and utter joy. We had such a great time laughing, I got all melty as I watched Michael tenderly hold and kiss his beautiful bride, and we all truly enjoyed and were wowed by our surroundings.

Deanna and Michael – I’ve already said this to you, but I’ll say it again. Thank you so much for inviting me to document such a happy, meaningful and love-filled time in your lives. I was so honored to get to do this for you, and even more grateful to have gotten to meet you both. Thank you so much for all your thoughtfulness, your joy, and for loving one another so freely! I loved every single second I got to spend with you both, and I’m so happy you have found one another. Thank you again (and thanks also for all the goodies for the drive home!). The next time you’re in Glacier, be sure to give me a shout! :)

Here’s a little tidbit about me you may not know…I love food. Like lo-o-OOOVE it. I love making it. I love devouring it. I love sharing it with others. (In fact, I have my own food blog, albeit a sorely neglected one because I seriously need something like 89 hours in the day to do everything I’d like to do.) BUT. Something I may love just as much as all these things put together and maybe even MORE (did I just admit to that?!), is photographing it. Food is pretty, folks. Hella pretty. So when Paul, the manager at The Tupelo Grille called me up to talk to me about doing some restaurant food photography in Whitefish Montana for their brand new website, you can bet I was super stoked.

I zipped on up there on an early morning at the end of March and we (and all the great folks at Tupelo) immediately got cracking. I began photographing the space (which is cozy and full of interesting, fun art, by the way), and soon cocktails were being mixed and getting all spiffed up for their starring moment in front of the camera. We had such a great time making these images – excitement was in the air as beautiful drink upon beautiful drink came out from the bar. (Speaking of the bar/lounge, holy moly is that little nook a work of art – you’ve got to check this place out if you haven’t!)

Appetizers were next, and in between shots of each, Paul and I would sneak a few bites here and there. Those bites were amazing. And I don’t just say that lightly. There is serious talent and flavor at The Tupelo Grille. (The cocktails are incredible, too, and have won awards.)

After the cocktails had enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame, entrees began to fly our way and Paul and I had a great time styling the food for the shots, high-fiving and getting even more giddy about which images might be the main show-stopper on their new website. Not long after, desserts began to head our direction and I had a great time composing the images to showcase the artful plating of each.

I hung out for a bit to go through images, and was treated to a delicious cocktail, tasty appetizers and bread (so goooood!), and one truly flavorful meal (their signature shrimp dish is beyond divine). Paul and I began to pick our selects from the day (getting even more amped in the process), and soon diners filled up the place, local talent crooned into all reaches of the lounge, and things buzzed as the evening’s meal service got under way.

I finished my meal (so full, so good!) and stuck around to capture the energy and ambiance of the restaurant and lounge, and even got to poke around the back to watch the chefs at work, making each dish perfection.

It was a long 15-hour day, but what a fun, fun shoot! Everyone I met was so great to work with and it’s abundantly clear the folks at The Tupelo Grille really put their all into what they do and deeply care about their restaurant. But more importantly, they care about the people with whom they get to share their talents. Next time you’re in Whitefish, snag a table or a bar stool and treat yourself! You’ll certainly be glad you did!

After such an amazing/fun/unique engagement session with Shannon and Jud this past autumn, I knew their Stone Tower Estate wedding in Stevensville Montana would be equally as wonderful. And, no surprise, they didn’t disappoint in the least.

Shannon and Jud started off their day with a really fun first look (Jud’s expression is just SO great!), and then we had fun making portraits with the two of them and their bridal party. And by fun, I mean LOTS of fun. Shannon, Jud and their friends and family are a great group and they definitely had themselves a good time as we made images together. (I’d also like to “shout out” the old chairs from the Wilma theater that Shannon and Jud brought along – such a cool, essentially-Missoula idea!)

As Shannon and Jud hid away for a bit before their wedding ceremony start, friends and family had a great time catching up and enjoying appetizers and drinks in the garden area of the estate. Kids ran and played (and munched on tasty garden treats they came across), bluebirds flitted, and everyone was full of smiles as they waited eagerly for the ceremony to start.

Soon it was time to go, and the wedding party made their way down a lushly green aisle with misty mountains as a backdrop. Shannon and Jud grinned at each other throughout their ceremony, and when it came time to seal it all with a kiss, they high-fived first, much to the enjoyment of everyone gathered to witness their nuptials.

Guests were soon treated to a tasty dinner, scrumptious desserts and some truly fantastic toasts. Before long, it was time to make some room in the barn to dance and folks began to cut a rug and groove to the music while a beautiful sunset made way for a (nearly) strawberry moon.

Shannon and Jud – oh my. It is an understatement to say just how much of a pleasure it’s been getting to photograph such happy and exciting milestones in your lives. I am so thrilled for you two, and I know that you’re going to have a life full of adventure and laughter together. Congrats, congrats, congrats again to you both!

Glacier National Park is a truly magical place, so when Christy and Neil got in touch with me about photographing their intimate Glacier National Park Wedding, I was so excited to hear about what they had in mind.

And it. Was. Perfect.

They both have strong connections to Glacier, and prior to their ceremony, went in search of a spot within the park that just felt right to them. That spot? The Trail of the Cedars. And it truly was right.

Christy wowed Neil with their first look, and as guests began to arrive, they both hid away down the trail. Soon, their ceremony started and Christy and Neil made their way down the trail, tiny against the towering, giant cedars, and stood next to the creek, golden aspens winking in the background as they spoke their incredibly touching vows and promised their love to one another.

Their friends and family smiled and cheered as the two officially became husband and wife, and soon everyone toasted to their union with some good Wisconsin beer.

Christy, Neil and I took off on a little “photo tour” of the park, and I’ve got to give credit to Christy for navigating some pretty rocky terrain in her dress – she won the day, for sure! We had such a great time making these images, and we were even treated to some especially awesome golden light that peeked through the rapidly approaching storm clouds right as we were wrapping up our tour.

Christy and Neil – what a wonderful, beautiful day for you both. It was such an honor and such a pleasure to have the opportunity to document such a meaningful day in your lives together. Glacier is gorgeous, but you two together are even better. :) Here’s to a life full of happy days and Glacier adventures!
