It's not every day that I get asked if I'll photograph a Montana waterfall wedding. But holy moly, I wish it were! When Megan contacted me a while back and asked me if I'd be willing to hike up to the falls for an intimate wedding with just her, her fiancé Zach, and their families, I was absolutely stoked. I truly love this type of creativity, adventure, and pure Montana awesomeness, and I knew we'd all have so much fun together. Megan told me that she and Zach had been road tripping in Montana a few years ago (they are both from Ohio) and had stumbled across this hike to the waterfall. When it came time to get married, they both knew they ...
Radiant Amidst the Rolling Hills :: {Raina and Danny’s Missoula Wedding}
It seems like only a few days ago that Raina, Danny and I were admiring Missoula's beautiful autumn colors and traipsing around Missoula having fun making their engagement photos. Fast forward to July, and suddenly it's their wedding day! The sky was blue, the temps were hot, and the grass was green. Though Raina and Danny had their ceremony at the Ranch Club, we also dashed downtown for a bit to hit up some of Missoula's unique buildings, and we may have stopped at a local watering hole to cool off and refresh everyone's drink as well. :) Lots of laughter and lots of smiling were definitely themes throughout the day - and anyone who ...
Furry Friends :: {Heather and Matt’s Missoula Family Portraits with their “Four-Leggeds”}
It's always so nice seeing Heather and Matt (whose gorgeous Glacier wedding I photographed last year!), and this time when I got together with them, I had the pleasure of meeting the four-legged members of their family too - Hailey and Abby the cats, and Dyson and Eureka the dogs. Heather and Matt absolutely adore their furry family members, and as an animal-lover myself, it's so sweet to see that same feeling in others as well. We had a great time soaking up the sun and the beautiful Missoula vista, racing hither and thither to photograph the cats (I may have been doing just as much rolling around in the grass as they were), and enjoying ...
A Love as Bright and Beautiful as the Big Sky :: {Stephanie and Danny’s Flying Horse Ranch Wedding}
Sometimes Montana weather in June can make us all look up at the sky in bewilderment - it was supposed to be a rainy day for Stephanie and Danny's wedding, but lo and behold, it was drop-dead gorgeous and Mother Nature even decided to go all out and match their wedding colors with bright blue skies and lush green grass. As the girls and guys readied themselves for the ceremony, there was a lot of laughter and giggling, which is always a great way to start the day in my book. The ladies laughed as Stephanie steadied herself as her maids laced up her dress, and the guys guffawed at their slick-soled shoes, and may have attempted some Michael ...
Ponies, Donkeys and Dogs, Oh My! :: {Abby and Jeff’s Lolo, Montana Ranch Engagement Session}
When Abby and Jeff, both animal-lovers, asked if they could have their engagement photos done with llamas, horses or cows - I admittedly got a little giddy. My response to that question will always be a resounding, "Heck YES!" We found ourselves some willing participants at a ranch in Lolo (they were: ponies Captain Lewis and Captain Clark, Charger the horse, Maude and Gertie the mini mules, and Vincent the dog), and luckily the weather held out for us while Abby and Jeff were in town visiting from Chicago. We had SO much fun. SO much. There was laughter, donkey braying, funny dog faces, kissing ponies, gorgeous light - you name it. And a ...
Love in the Springtime :: {Christine and Pete’s Missoula Engagement Session}
What is better than a perfect Montana springtime evening, beautiful golden light and a couple who is just head-over-heels for one another? Not much at all. That I'm certain of. Christine, Pete and I had SO much fun during their engagement session, and even though it was HOT (82 degrees in May - what what?!), I don't think we noticed all that much. We were too busy smiling, laughing, giggling, traipsing through the tall green grass, climbing over logs - you name it. It was such a treat to see the love in their eyes for one another, and to hear how they sweetly talk about each other. (In Christine's words: "I love him so much - everybody ...
Three Generations of Love and Smiles :: {Cheyenne’s Graduation and Three Generation Celebration}
It is always such a treat to get to work with clients multiple times, so when Cheyenne contacted me asking me if we could meet up again, this time with her mother and grandmother, to make some portraits to celebrate her graduation from the University of Montana and also celebrate the fact that three generations of her family were together, I was excited and jumped at the chance! We managed to dodge the raindrops (for the most part - we got a bit soaked as soon as we finished our portraits - see the last image to view the clouds we were up against), and had such a great time. These ladies obviously have a blast together, and it was so much ...
Graduation Celebration! :: {Dylan’s University of Montana Graduation and Family Portraits}
Graduation weekend at the University of Montana means there's a certain happy, excited energy in the air around Missoula that is always such a cool feeling, and makes me think back upon my own experiences graduating from college and graduate school. You're nervous, you're happy, you're relieved, you're stoked for the next chapter of your life, and you're grateful for those who helped support you in your academic pursuits - usually your awesome family and friends. Such was the case for Dylan, and we got together to make some portraits of him to celebrate his graduation from the University of Montana with a degree in Geology. He had ...
Playful Puppy! :: {The Sharkey Family’s Missoula Pet Portrait Session}
It was so fun to meet up with the Sharkey family the other day to make some portraits of their family - and their newest member, 12-week old golden lab, Kuba! I'm pretty sure we all got a workout from running around after Kuba and from laughing so much! He definitely stole the show, and even showed off his talents at learning how to be a bird dog (i.e. figuring out the pheasant scent). Thank you again for taking time out of your evening to make some fun images! It was such a treat to meet you all and indulge in some puppy time, which I absolutely adore. :) Ok folks...are you ready to melt? Fair warning...there's a lot of adorable ...
Loving the Lilacs – {Happy First Day of Spring, Missoula!}
I love spring. Every sweet ounce of it. There's just something so amazing and exhilarating about how the world transforms from browns and grays to color, color, color! (Have I mentioned just how much I love color?) Some of my favorite spring things (in no particular order): Fuzzy baby green leaves ::: warm sun ::: the smell of mud ::: birdsong ::: smiling faces ::: dark earth ::: buds! ::: blue skies ::: bicycling ::: grilling ::: transformation of the landscape ::: gardening ::: pussy willows ::: sweet little baby animals ::: getting muddy ::: t-shirt weather ::: the promise of summer.... I could go on and on, but I'll leave it at ...
