Oh my - it's an understatement to say that autumn in October in Montana is pretty darn special. But when I have the pleasure of making Missoula fall family photos for returning clients, it's even better! I got to meet up again with Keegan and his boys Anze and Mikko (I had a blast photographing them during their family session last summer), and this time Kristi and her daughter, Skylar, joined in the fun too. The kids had a fantastic time exploring our surroundings, climbing logs, jumping off the logs, finding super special rocks (both to throw and to keep), locating intriguing sticks, exclaiming over soft moss and pretty leaves, "roaring" ...
Ali :: Missoula Montana Rock the Dress Photos
Ali is one of my dear friends, and we've known each other since we were 6 and 7 respectively. It's become a bit of a tradition for me to make photos of her (she was a muse of mine back when I was in college shooting film and developing images in the darkroom - she and I attended different colleges across a river from one another!). And, I think, for going on 10 or 11 years now, she's made a trek out to visit me in Montana every summer. This summer she got married in the midwest, but I wasn't able to go to her wedding since I was already slated to shoot one here in Missoula. BUT...ButButBut...I told her to bring her dress out here during her ...
Leah + Rob :: Elopement in Glacier National Park
I have a soft spot in my heart for intimate weddings and elopements, and Leah and Rob's elopement in Glacier National Park was no exception. Rob has been visiting Montana for years, but last year he took Leah out to Glacier for the first time (they live in Massachusetts), and she absolutely fell in love with it - hence their (excellent) decision to get married in Montana! We were treated to a spectacular, sunny day in the park, which was particularly nice for Leah. When she had originally visited Glacier it was pretty socked in with cloud cover and mist, so Leah was literally seeing a lot of the park again for the first time! The two held ...
Ethan + Emily :: Flying Horse Ranch Wedding in Corvallis Montana
Last year Ethan and Emily, both from Iowa, decided to take a vacation with Yellowstone being one of their stops. They loved their time in Montana so much that, fast forward to their wedding day, lo and behold they decided to have their Flying Horse Ranch wedding in Corvallis, Montana. And I'm so glad they did because what a wonderful day it was. Their day started off with a super sweet first look between the two. Ethan was so excited to see Emily and the look on his face as he first turned around to behold his beautiful bride was so special. We continued having fun making photos of just the two of them before moving on to more of the ...
Brandon + Natalie :: St Ignatius Montana Engagement Photos
I had the pleasure of meeting up with Brandon and Natalie the other evening for their St Ignatius Montana engagement photos. They had just gotten in to Montana the day before (they live in Florida), and I was so eager to meet them in person as we'd only spoken by phone prior to our session and while discussing their wedding plans. As I knew we would, we all had a blast making images for them that evening. Brandon and Natalie are truly, madly in love, and it was so sweet to watch them together, full of deep affection and smiles and gentle touches and plenty of laughter too. We wandered amongst the trees, finding perfect pockets of evening ...
Deanna + Michael :: Glacier National Park Elopement at Lake McDonald
You never know what kind of weather you're going to get when you're in Glacier National Park. And with all the rain (and snow!) we've been experiencing this spring I was certainly crossing my fingers that Deanna and Michael's Glacier National Park elopement at Lake McDonald wouldn't be totally rained out. But wouldn't you know it, after adjusting our shoot date a bit, we were treated to an absolutely beautiful (albeit chilly!) spring day! I was beyond happy, as were Deanna and Michael who had traveled to Glacier all the way from North Carolina to celebrate their elopement. They had never been to Glacier before, but they were both keen on ...
The Lubbers Family :: Missoula Family Portraits in the Spring
I was so happy to hear from the Lubbers family as they were really excited to get some Missoula family portraits in the spring, and also celebrate the recent second birthday of their littlest one. Sadie was so enthusiastic about their session when she contacted me, so I knew we'd have a great time taking advantage of the lush landscapes we've got right now (thanks to all that rain we've been getting lately!). Speaking of rain, we were a little nervous we might get a few drops headed our direction, but luckily the weather held out and we were treated to a gorgeous springtime evening in Missoula for their family portraits. As the gray, fluffy ...
On Assignment :: Winds of Change Magazine Shoot with Cody Sifford
In early March I had the pleasure of heading north to photograph Cody Sifford for a Winds of Change magazine shoot. The Pohly Company out of Boston, Massachusetts had contacted me to shoot images of Cody who was their cover feature (along with a story inside). I always love doing editorial work (to hearken back to my photojournalism background), so I was super excited to hear how eager the Pohly Company was to work with me on this shoot. Thankfully our shoot date didn't get rained or snowed out due to the wet weather we'd been experiencing, so I met up with Cody to make some cover-worthy portraits to go along with his magazine feature. He ...
Margaret, Scott + Danforth Quayle the Dog :: Missoula Pet and Family Photos
First, I just love, love, love when folks contact me wanting to do family photos with their four-legged friends, and secondly, I love it even more when it gets to take place in the winter! So it was no surprise that Margaret, Scott and their adorable dog, Danforth Quayle's, Missoula pet and family photos would be so enjoyable. Margaret and Scott have been wanting to make some portraits for a while now, and decided this was the year to do it - and also give it as a gift to their parents! (Always a great idea!) Luckily we were able to fit a session in for them while it was 1). actually snowy (sometimes Missoula doesn't see that much snow in ...
Katherine Ann + David :: Elopement at Triple Creek Ranch in Darby Montana
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I ADORE. AdoreAdoreAdore elopements. And I absolutely loved everything about Katherine Ann and David's elopement at Triple Creek Ranch in Darby Montana. They came to the ranch by way of Colorado, and were treated to some of Montana's finest fall colors for their special day. We started out the day by photographing Katherine Ann as she was getting ready, and once all the buttons were buttoned and the shoes were fastened, we headed down the road to surprise David, who was ever-so-patiently waiting to see his beautiful bride for the first time. There was laughter, there were tears, there were hugs. ...
