I receive questions about protecting your digital files often enough that I figured it was worth writing a post to tell you about the ways in which I keep my data safe. The number one thing to realize when it comes to digital files and data is that wherever you're storing it, that storage option (if it's mechanical) WILL FAIL. At some point.
