It seems like only a few days ago that Raina, Danny and I were admiring Missoula's beautiful autumn colors and traipsing around Missoula having fun making their engagement photos. Fast forward to July, and suddenly it's their wedding day! The sky was blue, the temps were hot, and the grass was green. Though Raina and Danny had their ceremony at the Ranch Club, we also dashed downtown for a bit to hit up some of Missoula's unique buildings, and we may have stopped at a local watering hole to cool off and refresh everyone's drink as well. :) Lots of laughter and lots of smiling were definitely themes throughout the day - and anyone who ...
Furry Friends :: {Heather and Matt’s Missoula Family Portraits with their “Four-Leggeds”}
It's always so nice seeing Heather and Matt (whose gorgeous Glacier wedding I photographed last year!), and this time when I got together with them, I had the pleasure of meeting the four-legged members of their family too - Hailey and Abby the cats, and Dyson and Eureka the dogs. Heather and Matt absolutely adore their furry family members, and as an animal-lover myself, it's so sweet to see that same feeling in others as well. We had a great time soaking up the sun and the beautiful Missoula vista, racing hither and thither to photograph the cats (I may have been doing just as much rolling around in the grass as they were), and enjoying ...
Celebrating 50 Years :: {The Hooper’s 50th Anniversary at Flathead Lake}
I met up with the Hoopers, their kids and grandkids at Flathead Lake in Polson the other day, as they all gathered to celebrate Don and Gayle's 50 years of marriage - what an impressive milestone! Their family had come from all over the states to help celebrate, so we wanted to make some nice portraits of all of them while they were together in Montana. And what a great group they were! We had such a great time, giggling and laughing as we made our more traditional images. And then, because it's Flathead Lake, we let loose with the kids and had fun with some yoga poses and cheer moves. Thank you again, everybody! I had such a wonderful ...
Kisses under the Cottonwoods :: {Autumn and Kevin’s Great Falls, Montana Wedding}
Despite the weather forecast warning of rain, Mother Nature must've known she needed to match Autumn's and Kevin's bright, happy personalities and decided to wow everyone with a beautiful, sunny day in an absolutely picturesque setting at Autumn's grandparents' house in Great Falls. Everyone readied themselves amidst a chorus of laughter (and maybe a few happy tears too), and soon the two were ready to see each other for the first time. Kevin was filled with emotion - happy, happy tears! - as he saw his bride-to-be walking towards him. Guests filtered in, hugging and greeting one another, and soon the ceremony started as the wedding ...
A Love as Bright and Beautiful as the Big Sky :: {Stephanie and Danny’s Flying Horse Ranch Wedding}
Sometimes Montana weather in June can make us all look up at the sky in bewilderment - it was supposed to be a rainy day for Stephanie and Danny's wedding, but lo and behold, it was drop-dead gorgeous and Mother Nature even decided to go all out and match their wedding colors with bright blue skies and lush green grass. As the girls and guys readied themselves for the ceremony, there was a lot of laughter and giggling, which is always a great way to start the day in my book. The ladies laughed as Stephanie steadied herself as her maids laced up her dress, and the guys guffawed at their slick-soled shoes, and may have attempted some Michael ...
Love in the Sunshine :: {Micah and Dave’s Helena Lakeside Ranch Wedding}
If I had to pick just one word to describe Micah and Dave's wedding at the Lakeside Ranch in Helena it would be : HAPPY. That was the overwhelmingly wonderful feeling I had their entire wedding day. Everyone was simply happy, smiling and thoroughly enjoying themselves. From joking around and laughing while getting ready, to their sweet smiles during their wedding vows, to the energetic dancing and everything in between...light and love and pure happiness just radiated. Guests had a great time mingling with one another, playing lawn games, and popping into the "polaroid" booth to make faces for friends. Dave and Micah stole kisses here and ...
Glorious Glacier :: {One of my Favorite Places on Earth}
I've been a bit quiet on the blog lately, I admit. But it's because I've been steadfastly prepping for the upcoming photography season (which is going to be awesome!), and I've also been taking time to better my business from behind the scenes, as well as better myself personally and spend time with friends and family before life gets all crazy again. This also means I've finally gotten around to editing some of my own personal images. So, I thought I'd share a few here. Last September I took some time to meet up with my brother and his girlfriend in Glacier National Park. They took the train from Portland into Whitefish, unpacked their ...
Downtown Walkabout – {Dustin’s Senior Photos}
Dustin, a 2014 senior at Hellgate High School in Missoula, first contacted me to do his senior pictures after hearing from his sister Ashley that he should check out my work. (Thanks Ashley!) Funny enough, Ashley was one of my students in my photojournalism class I taught at the University of Montana's Journalism School this past spring semester. So it was a treat to meet Dustin and get to work with him as well. We had a great time wandering around downtown and Dustin told me he loves hanging out with friends, soaking up warm weather (he grew up in California), and has plans to attend the University of Montana to pursue a degree in ...
These are a few of their Favorite Things – {Dusty and Tom’s Missoula Rock the Dress Session}
Dusty and Tom are so fab - first, remember their gorgeous Glacier wedding last July? Secondly, when Dusty told me what she wanted to do for her rock the dress session, I was loving how her goal was to incorporate some of their favorite things - golfing, their love of Missoula, their passion for the Griz and, the cherry on top - quintessential Missoula summer awesomeness: floating the river with beers in hand. We started out golfing a few holes and took advantage of some gorgeous Missoula vistas as well. Talk about a perfect day for all of what we had planned! After hitting the course, our next stop was the "M" trail at the university, and ...
Rocking the Dress, Montana-Style :: Lauren and Thad’s Day After Rock the Dress Session at Lake Koocanusa
Reason number 5 million and one why I think Lauren and Thad are the bee's knees: they are avid rock climbers AND they wanted me to document, quite literally, a rock the dress session for them the day after their wedding. When they first told me this, in my head I was all giddy and yelping and saying (in my head, mind you), "Can I get a heck YEAH!?!!!" (Though now that I think about it, maybe that wasn't all in my head.) Because 1. How completely, totally awesome. And 2. I'm a rock climber as well. Albeit a bit rusty after not having had a partner for a couple years, but I GET rock climbing. I get it. I love it. I understand it. I ...
