I've got to admit, I wish more people got married in the wintertime. I've got a huge soft spot for winter weddings - especially when everything is snowy and beautiful and all the lights are warm and glowing and everything is beyond magical. Suffice it to say, Mariah and Caleb were definitely treated to a winter wedding, and their snowy Victor Montana wedding was so Montana, and so wonderful, and left me with the biggest, fullest heart and the hugest of smiles. I'm not entirely sure how many inches of snow we were treated to that evening, but I swear, it was dumping and dumping and dumping! When I drove down the Bitterroot that evening it ...
Kelci + Michael :: Wintry Missoula Maternity Photos
I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again - there's really nothing better than getting to work with past clients in new stages of their lives. So when Kelci and Michael contacted me about doing their wintry Missoula maternity photos to document the excitement surrounding their very first baby, I was, simply put, giddy (which is totally an understatement). I've had the pleasure of getting to photograph their engagement, their wedding, now their maternity session, and soon, their sweet little baby! As I knew we would, we had such a blast making these photos. Kelci and Michael are the absolute sweetest people, and were just as ...
Becka + Stephan :: Snowy Wedding at the Barn on Mullan
It's a huge understatement to say just how excited I was to hear that Becka and Stephan had gotten engaged, and even happier (and super flattered!) when they asked me to photograph their snowy wedding at the Barn on Mullan. Earlier this spring I had the pleasure of getting to make family photos for them and we just had an absolute blast, so I knew getting to photograph their wedding would be a total delight. And, no surprise, it was! We were treated to a fresh dusting of snow, and had a few snowflakes softly floating down throughout their entire wedding day - talk about dreamy! Becka and Stephan both began their day getting ready with ...
On Assignment :: Winds of Change Magazine Shoot with Cody Sifford
In early March I had the pleasure of heading north to photograph Cody Sifford for a Winds of Change magazine shoot. The Pohly Company out of Boston, Massachusetts had contacted me to shoot images of Cody who was their cover feature (along with a story inside). I always love doing editorial work (to hearken back to my photojournalism background), so I was super excited to hear how eager the Pohly Company was to work with me on this shoot. Thankfully our shoot date didn't get rained or snowed out due to the wet weather we'd been experiencing, so I met up with Cody to make some cover-worthy portraits to go along with his magazine feature. He ...
Emilia :: First Birthday Party Celebration in Frenchtown, Montana
It's been such a treat getting to work with Emilia's family these past several months, so to be able to document her very first birthday party celebration at her grandpa's house in Frenchtown was super special. All sorts of friends and family were there to help Emilia celebrate and the house was decorated to the nines with balloons, pictures and streamers of all sorts to really get the first birthday mood set! Emilia snacked on pineapple and carrots and doled out hugs as birthday guests packed the house in preparation for the party to really get started. Soon it was time for the "Happy Birthday" song to be sung to the birthday girl, and ...
Megan + Ben :: Missoula County Courthouse Wedding
I was beyond excited to get my friend Megan's note a while back asking me if I'd photograph her Valentine's Day wedding, as there's nothing better than being able to celebrate and document the love and happiness of others - especially on Valentine's Day, and especially when it's the wedding of a friend of mine! And holy moly, Megan and Ben's Missoula County Courthouse wedding absolutely chock FULL of love and happiness! The morning began brilliantly - all sunshine and blue skies. Ben and his family waited at the courthouse for Megan to arrive, and his two nieces showed us some excellent dance moves that we should all aspire to. Soon ...
On Assignment :: Missoula Valley Lifestyle Magazine Feature with James Lee Burke
Last February I was hired by a photo agency out of France to photograph James Lee Burke for a piece they were writing about him for their publication, and I loved every. single. second of it, and couldn't help but wax poetic about the experience, which was beyond wonderful. I initially wrote about it on the blog here, and shared images as well. Fast forward about a year, and I was contacted by the lovely folks at Missoula Valley Lifestyle Magazine asking if they could feature my images and my original blog post in their upcoming February issue. So, here you go - the magazine has gone to print and the Missoula Valley Lifestyle Magazine ...
Margaret, Scott + Danforth Quayle the Dog :: Missoula Pet and Family Photos
First, I just love, love, love when folks contact me wanting to do family photos with their four-legged friends, and secondly, I love it even more when it gets to take place in the winter! So it was no surprise that Margaret, Scott and their adorable dog, Danforth Quayle's, Missoula pet and family photos would be so enjoyable. Margaret and Scott have been wanting to make some portraits for a while now, and decided this was the year to do it - and also give it as a gift to their parents! (Always a great idea!) Luckily we were able to fit a session in for them while it was 1). actually snowy (sometimes Missoula doesn't see that much snow in ...
Author James Lee Burke and his Montana Ranch :: Reportage Photo Assignment for RÉA Agency in Paris, France
A couple weeks ago, I received a message from Agence RÉA in Paris, France, asking me if I'd be interested in an assignment photographing James Lee Burke and his Montana ranch for the French magazine, Le Point. Oh my, twist my arm, YES! So off I went on a foggy, damp Montana Valentine's Day to hang out with Jim, listen to his incredible stories, and even get to meet his four sweet horses. I walked up to the door of his ranch, and he and his wife, Pearl, greeted me with smiles and a warm welcome and offers of tea. We sat down at his kitchen nook and spoke while we both munched on chocolate covered almonds. It didn't take long for Jim to ...
Miss H. :: Stevensville Boudoir Photos
It was such a treat to get to work with Miss H. the other day to make these Stevensville boudoir photos as a gift for her husband, and as a gift for herself as well. (Also, thank you again, H, for being so gracious and allowing me to share a few images on the blog!) I met her at her home and, wouldn't you know it, we found a perfect little nook with seriously gorgeous light to work with too! I can't emphasize enough how fun and special these boudoir sessions are - I love being able to help women see themselves as they truly are - beautiful inside and out. Thank you again, H, for such a fantastic session, and again, for sharing these ...
